Yeah too bad counter jungling gives like zero exp for a buff steal now a days. You don't even get level 3 from triple buffing unless you take small golems from 2 of those 3 camps Kind of dumb.

If you're goal is to constantly counter jungle, scavenging smite gives you more xp and gold if you steel a buff. It's really strong on shaco, since he's pretty much the strongest counter jungler atm, but its understandable to go for other smites, since they seem more useful.

and plus taking scavenging smite is basically the same thing as grabbing a big sign that says "HEY LOOK AT ME, I AM GOING TO COUNTERJUNGLE YOU!"

Purple smite is viable for all elos if you're going for a farming jungler

That's why you go for the counter-junglering, and just sit in their jungle and kill their jungler every time he comes in.

To do that you would want challenging smite rather than scavenging. And teams catch on to that and will come to help and kill you instead. It's not that counter jungling is a bad strat, its just weak compared to afk farming or providing lots of lane pressure. The junglers in the current meta don't rely on buffs to be successful, they just rely on soaking up damage and providing cc in the late game.

Until you run into Drag, smite it when the enemy jg is doing it, then when they're laughing about how you didn't steal it with smite, you last second Q it and run away taunting them.
