Reminds me of a similar scene in the Bleach manga, where Isshin (Ichigo's Father) was still a captain within Soul Society, Rangiku throws a platter at him in a tree. He catches it, says "ha! I caught it" only for her to kick through the platter into his face (which is what he's holding the platter in front of).
