That was my face when I first saw Thresh. He is the best designed champion to me in that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING about him is tied together from his lore to his kit to his movement quotes.

The best example of this is his q. If you take enough pain or are in a dangerous situation long enough then you'll get numb and just won't feel it anymore or get used to the danger and no longer be surprised by anything. This can be applied to anything done in a repetitive manner such as playing music as "white noise" because you've heard it so many times you don't consciously listen to it anymore when it plays you just know its going on.

But Thresh is anything but repetitive. Because where everyone else in the game will face in the direction of a skillshot they fire, Thresh does not in regards to his q. No, instead of being predictable and launching the hook at the tower you are running towards you can instead launch it behind you but be facing the other way. And when he surprises the jungler that was going to gank, whom now tries to force a fight he hadn't yet prepared for. In doing so the Adc tries to respond to the help call and stop running, which gives your team's jungler a chance to gank on the adc and burst them down. Now the jungler is alone and has to back off fighting you, but its too late. Your ult boxes them in when they try to run and your e ensure they are both low on health and even farther from help and cannot escape the oncoming pain. They are basically helpless as you and the jungler tear them apart. And that is probably how every prisoner Thresh tortured while alive felt, so that is exactly what his kit is meant to do.

The torture isn't the point here though. Its his completeness and wholeness that I like because his lore matches perfectly with his kit and how he is to be played in game and because of those meshing so perfectly together his kit and lore are likely never going to change. To me, Thresh is the example of how Riot needs to make their champions and I wish there were more of them like Thresh.

Sometimes, getting Relic Shield on Thresh isn't always a good idea.

Yeah I don't get why people do that. Only melee champs can proc the execute move (though yes you can still kill minions and grant health/gold that way) and Thresh is much better of with the speed buff of the Talisman of Ascension anyway.

Thresh is significantly better with Relic Shield. The Coin gives no combat stats early. The execute part of the Shield isn't important. The last hitting to get the gold is what's important. Plus, you get more gold with the Relic Shield than you do the coin.

Well I guess its dependent on your playstyle. Personally I'm used to playing into the long term strategy so the health/mana regen you get from the coin plays well into my style. But if you're more into pushing the lane then you're likely trying to go for straight tankiness and burst over sustained damage/tankiness and would want relic shield for that.

One big downside to the relic shield is that you're ability to farm is now predictable because the enemy can see when a minion is getting low on health, but if you're not a melee champ then you can't just execute the minion and retreat before the enemy tries to punish you for farming.

Whereas with the coin you can just be close by in the same way you gain xp and as such is a more reliable source of farm early on than trying to last hit with the shield as a non-melee champion. The coin is also still viable as a source of gold in the late game when you won't have built minion killing power and let your adc build that way instead. The shield can't do that in the late game except for maybe 4 at most of 7 minions total if you count the cannon minion. And that is made even harder when you can't proc the execute move.

Basically there is a reason Thresh has the coin as his recommended item over the shield and I'll take it every time.

I find it odd that Thresh has the coin as one of his recommended items, but every high level Thresh player I've seen says it's a bad idea and takes Relic. I used to take coin until I saw that, and after doing it, I find it much better.

as support, I have certain expectations out of my adc as they do for me, last hitting minions isn't one of them, frankly I find that depending on the champ I play I can do much better than the adc and for this reason alone, I tell them, if your not gonna take what I give you then ill take it. needless to say I tend to outperform my adc in 75% of my games
