Tank ekko is almost as old as ap ekko ap ekko only being older by internal play testing and pbe testing as first day ekko was released offically i qued up as support tank ekko because you cant give an assassin high base damge lots of slows and a 2.5 second stun and not expect a support and tank play style. since offical release is offical tank ekko is technically as old as ap ekko

Eh AP Bruiser Top Ekko is still arguably better than AP Mid. You get out of the ranged vs melee match ups most of the time and don't get camped nearly as easily. Top lane you can farm rather safe and just buy a single pink to stop most ganks. You will still be bulky with RoA+Abyssal+Zhonya (I sometimes go Protobelt 2nd item aswell) but do enough damage to kill most squishies with QR if they are chasing you or do 60%+ health with QE.
