Whenever that happens to me I end up getting destroyed by them. Urgh. I'm a casual player, but it's really demoralizing to be wiped out by a mirror because it pretty much means that you're going to be totally overshadowed in teamfights by them.

I always use the excuse that they have more fitting runes and masteries, but I never check, so that I can't be wrong.

Not entirely true. Mirror matches are weird. You can be better on a champ in every other matchup, but they could play more blind pick, so have like some specific trick. I know I myself don't learn or theorize how to play mirror matches, because it will never be something that can happen in a game that matters.

Some special trick? That's just champion knowledge. If they know how to pull something off that you don't, they are better at that champion.

I remember I was playing Vel'koz on TT a long time ago, and I had the battlecast skin. My solo lane opponent was a classic vel'koz, and I got beat like 4-2 in lane, 40 farm down. He said something like "refund skin" and I played so, so much vel'koz after that. I just wanted to get unstoppable with the tentacle monster, so I could face the most fed katarina in the universe, pin her to the ground and MAKE HER MY LITTLE B-

Anyway, not that good yet, but I'm working on it. Mirror matches still make me really tense, but I'm more confident in my ability to win them.

No, but there are some mirror matches that end up weird. Like certain parts of a kit don't interact well with eachother. Lb has a bunch of those little nuances that only apply in the mirror lane. If you know how to be a better lb vs lb player, but I know how to be a better lb vs the rest of the roster, im still the better player. Bottom line is: You can't guage a players skill off just one game.

I guess, but I doubt that's often the case. I bet if someone's winning a mirror match, they're just generally better at that champion than their opponent. The chance that they've only specialized their mirror match ability with that one champ is just abysmally small.

Someone who's played so many Yasuo mirror matches that they have specific strategies for it has played a LOT of games with Yasuo, and I would be stunned if the people he's beating in mirrors are somehow better at Yasuo than he is in other situations.

Oh yeah, like I basically only play Normal SR. I'm saying if someone plays a champ so much that they've run into enough mirror matches to have a specific strategy for winning them, I bet they're just better at the champion too.

Well, but that's what im saying. Take someone who has 500 lb games in ranked this season. Now take someone with 500 games in blind pick with LB this season. If that one person has played the lb mirror matchup 125 times, they will probably know one specific thing or timing, that wouldn't apply in normal circumstances.

Doesn't necessarily mean they are better at the game, just at the 1v1 early laning phase matchup. The difference could come down to rune choices, a lucky crit, or a gank.

I actually really like mirror match ups because this presents the opportunity to see how someone else uses the champion in the same role which presents a learning opportunity not only for yourself but for your opponent. Now this isn't as exciting on an ADC because build paths are generically the same, but for Jungle champions its more learning experience. However it does suck to get destroyed by your mirror as its been previously stated, I just look at it as more as a learning opportunity.

The real trick to bot lane mirror match is to not actually be in the same role as them. Like instead of "support" Soraka (which isn't a thing anymore I'd say, darn you Riot) you go adc and have Aatrox support. before you question my logic, try it out. It is highly effective to use lifesteal and q pokes to always out-trade your lane opponent and have Aatrox for that cc and surprising amount of tanky healing. Its also useful to sometimes use your heal on a minion to prevent the enemy adc from getting a last hit (but don't do it every-time).
