Really? Then you haven't played with anyone who knows how, cause I do so regularly. The tricks to doing so are:

Most people will not pay attention to the support in a gank, unless it's someone like thresh or blitz, this makes her Q more useful (people are less likely to dodge in time).
Shield the freaking jungler as they go in (doubly so if you have )
Outmanuver the enemy team and don't forget that if you're fast (which you should be as janna), your ult is also an engage.
