Since they have(had) no natural predators in their (previously)untouched natural habitats, they don't react defensively to most animals(and men) so they are pretty easy to hunt and kill, after all they spent the last couple of thousand years of evolution sitting in their asses chewing some sweet plant. They are doomed to dissapear

They don't provide anything useful to the ecosystem either, and we spend so much money over pandas just because the general public thinks they are cute, when the money for pandas can be spent helping more useful species stay around.

They don't really get hunted. They simply have a very picky eating habit and are extremely unadaptable. The habitat loss is what is causing them to disappear. They are also very, very difficult to breed. They seem to avoid sex almost completely in captivity, and their breeding season is incredibly short. Their existance was simply the kindness of the conditions to allow a few of these strange creatures to plod around, much like the Dodos. They are not useless, but far less important to their environments than creatures like wolves or bats, for which extensive efforts have been made to hunt and exterminate rather than to protect.

That's not how pandas are mated. Generally, they are given a more organic, natural feeling area to mate. Observation is not done close up, but through more subtle surveillance. Keepers and conservationists know that pandas are difficult to mate. they try to make it as comfortable as possible for the pandas to mate on terms that feel natural, but pandas seldom desire. In fact, they'd rather attack each other. So the question is not " would you want to whip your willy and mate as a captive with scientists keenly observing", but rather " would you get it on with this lovely lady in this decent hotel room, where you aren't aware you are being watched, or would you prefer to bite her face in seemingly random irritation"
