Reading Jhin's passive

PASSIVE: WHISPER Jhin’s gun - Whisper - chambers four shots, the last of which always crits and applies extra damage based on a portion of his target’s missing health. After firing all four shots, Jhin takes a moment to reload. Jhin’s crits deal less damage than normal, and his attack speed doesn’t actually scale with attack speed. Instead, Jhin gains attack damage from any attack speed and crit chance he earns through itemization and runes, while crits give him a burst of movement based on his attack speed.

His gun does seem overly complicated. https://sgtr.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/departed1.gif

Benjaling22 votes

no, his passive just means crit chance and attack speed affect his normal damage instead of what they would do, and he gets a real crit every fourth attack before he reloads. It's less complicated than graves' gun.

Illiad3 votes

i wish they said that.

Avios13 votes

Attack damage also increases the move speed boost at the last shot

Ariel the Cruel5 votes

Gives a move speed boost with every crit - not just his last shot. His last shot has 100% crit chance.

I believe he gets ashe-esque increased AD for crit chance instead of normal, but instead of every AA criting none of them do (except for the 4th shot from his passive).

I realize this is the rumor going around. But going off only his reveal page: it never says anywhere that his first 3 attacks can't crit. If there has been a red post or PBE release that I'm missing, please enlighten.

Jhin gains damage from any attack speed and crit chance he builds. Likely this means that for his consistent crit, he's losing Crit-chance as its converted to raw damage

RaxSpike1 votes

Jhin can build crit and can have 100% crit chance. Crit only deals reduced dmg (increased by item 3031 ) and has a scaling of crit to increase AD.

You were probably aware of this but I wanted to just put this here since the comment thread is about this topic

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

That's what I expected. But a lot of people still seem to think his first 3 bullets can't crit.

RG Velean1 votes

But he only ever crits on the 4th shot fired. He can't gain crit chance

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

I ask again. WHERE does it say this? Is there red post I'm missing? As it reads, every attack can crit, his 4th bullet has 100% crit chance.

Crit damage is reduced, in exchange for raw AD.

They basically took graves, ashe and vayne, smashed them together in a supercollider, and got this out of it.

Fiddler1 votes

Where does Vayne come into the mix?

DeathToEcchi1 votes

Obviously any '3-hit' passive is modeled after vayne, not jax or yi.

Ariel the Cruel10 votes

You missed one.

Passive: Enemy champions that have been struck by Jhin’s basic attacks, Captive Audience, or any allied damage are marked for a few seconds.

There's also that rumor going around that he has afourth passive.

{quoted}

The reveal is missing something that got locked in too late for localization.
Beauty in Death - Killing blows spawn a blooming flower on the corpse that reveals and slows enemies nearby before detonating for damage.

Mistress Madoka4 votes

That last one isn't really a Rumour, Gypsylord is they guy who MADE Jhin

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Yes.... that's why I quoted Gypsylord posting it. (>_>)

So lemme see if i can get this straight:

-crit deals less damage than normal -Attack speed stays the same thoughout game -attack speed & crit = more base damage -crits give movement speed based on attack speed

I think i got it

marco3612311 votes

what about infinity edge passive? will he not get the bonus damage from crits?

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Yes, he'll get an additional 50% of his AD on crits, but he'll also have X% less damage on crits from his passive.

Intro to Modern Physics next semester, just a few probability functions, gradients, and partial derivatives.

Jihn passive wtf, can the first 3 attacks crit? That is the real enigma.

Void Nargacuga1 votes

Yes, all his autos can crit. Though he crits at 150% instead of the normal amount.

ERR UserNotFound6 votes

Am I really the only one that finds REALLY easy to read? -_- And to remember them, too...

AMYS GRAVE4 votes

The burden of knowledge is too high already, and only gets worse with each new champion. They don't see the problem they are creating. Every new champion is innovative, which changes the feel of the game dramatically. Old players will find the game is no longer the game they fell in love with and quit. With fewer old players there is no one to pass on information to new players, and there is too much for them to reasonably pick up in order to get into the game. Once the old players start quitting and the game is not accessible for new players it will slowly die off.

LF Annie2 votes

the other side of this coin is if they don't keep releasing new feeling champs the old players that have every champ, keep stacking ip, and feel like they have nothing else to gain from continually playing.

Jas3Bae3 votes

I don't get everyone's issue with it. It may be a little long, but it's pretty clear in it's meaning.

HexaDecimel3 votes

I had to read the notes several times before I fully understood what his passive did, lol

KidKaiser3 votes

it's confusing because "His attack speed [doesn't actually scale] with attack speed"

and here we're all thinking he's gonna attack once every 10 years. cuz gg no atk spd scales.

gatchi3 votes

finally an appropriate reaction image for this

ARequestOfDeath2 votes

so your saying that jihn's attack damage would be over the roof with a build like item 3031 item 3153 item 3142 item 3508 item 1301 item 3812

Actualy, it mean the exact opposite. Since all the normal adc stats will scale additively instead of multiplicatively, Jhin will probably feel the diminushing return much faster for building those stats. He will probably seeks for dealing dmg in alternative ways :

item 3153 item 3932 item 3042 item 3087 item 3085

And less by building direct stats. Also, he will be more successful with an armor then most ADCs since HP and armor will still scale fully multiplicatively with his kit.

AnybodySwag1 votes

So any adc item you build you get MORE DMG and Crits give even MORE DMG and MORE MoveSpeed........................... NO that doesn't sound OP at all i bet you won't even need that cool looking ult to pick of target becouse they'll be dead. it its sounds fun to play him if you can actually pick him first and doesn't get banned

Vivid Mandala9 votes

It's to balance the fact that he won't rise much beyond his base attack speed. Each autp has to hurt more than a normal adc's because the attacks come less often. I get the feeling on the PBE he's either going to be extremely weak or extremely strong, and be a problem to balance once he's released due to being so different from the usual adc mold.

Gubaguy1 votes

ok so lemme see if i understand this...

He doesnt gain attack speed, period. He doesnt gain crit chance, period.

ALL attack speed, crit chance, and attack damage is converted to more damage.

So... hit hard, hit once?

Laughing Fish4 votes

Yes and no. He does appear to gain crit chance, but the crits do less damage and increase his movement speed.

Zetsui1 votes

you have 4 round clip with static atk speed, last round crit + execute

atk spd gives AD and MS on crit

crit also gives AD

Reduced crit dmg

Renekton's Q is more complicated

invisiblecat11 votes

Renekton spins in a circle, heal, and deal damage I think that is more complex then some stats giving other stats.

Zetsui1 votes

it spins dealing damage, gaining rage by for each enemy it hits, but only while below 50 rage, if above 50 rage it instead consumes 50 rage to deal extra damage, also heals, heal is based off a percent of damage dealt. Healing percentage is higher for damage dealt to champions and lower for all other targets. Healing is also capped, the cap increases if the ability is consuming rage instead of building it. Radius of damage dealt increases while in ult form.

either can be complex or simple depending on how its stated. Neither are actually complicated to any degree.
