YES! Although am I the only one rather disappointed by the relaunch of Bionicles? It's not bad, but I really think they dumbed down the story a ton.

they definitely cut back on the development and world-building. one of the key things bionicle had going for it especially in the mnog era was how they built up the world as a tangible and real place both through stories and their interactive mediums. in the stories, there was actually a lot going on behind the scenes. one example: in the adventures, there was a specific scene where Whenua, toa metru of earth was going all sherlock investigator mixed with aliens in the archives and built his character as well as built up an atmosphere with the location of a deep underground complex with tunnels from some unknown rahi. another example was when the toa mata first met in chronicles: and gali was sizing everyone up, but then stopped on kopaka, creating an actually brilliant literary note that they were very similar and so couldn't quite figure each other out. the movies weren't hollywood production status, but they did amazing animation with what they had at the time and got their point across. The overarching plot (which they had up until 2008 figured out since 2001) was a brilliant secret and testament to dedication on behalf of the team and the community involvement was phenomenal. If I had to put the first generation into a few words I'd say: Deep, branching lore portrayed through character, world and plot development. this current generation, while I honestly think they've done phenomenally with the design of the sets to portray character in each one, sort of give a short cut to their character by telling instead of showing. we could tell there was rich culture through the MNoG games, that whenua was intelligent and brave through the way he crept into the archives, that there was some dynamic between all of the characters. the old story felt like a large branching oak, where as the current standing of the story feels more akin to a tulip. this doesn't mean it's bad, just different.

tl;dr: Yeah, they seem to have cut down on story budget in favor of set design. isn't a bad thing, just not quite as engaging to me. I still got the toa from the g2 wave 1, and I might get the next kopaka next year if the reviews and design are good.

Yeah. I loved those so much. Are you possibly referencing the third Metru Nui book with that shape-shifting rahi, Krahka? Their movies lacked in story because they were aimed at kids I think, but the animation was most definitely amazing.

Personally, my favorite years would be 06-08. I am definitely a fan of the concept and designs of 09, but it was definitely depressing when they ended Bionicles even after they built up so much that could be worked upon in the next few years.

The new sets are pretty good although I believe the story was probably the main reason why I loved the sets so much. Like, I love what they did with the sets and most of them were really good, but I am a rather lore-oriented person and would probably happily read just a giant book about Bionicles even if there was never a Lego product line for them.

I was actually referencing the first or second book i think when he fell down a hole and was caught between the rahkshi and the freshly escaped from stasis muaka for my example.

the ignition years were definitely good ones with the story complexity, but the toa metru will always have a place in my heart-light. I understand that the end of bionicle was a business decision intended to protect the brand from being dried out, but I still wish we had gotten the bota magna storyline.

I rather agree that lore definitely played a huge part of my continued deep interest in the series. at first, when I picked up kopaka and gali mata for the first time, it may have been because they were cool new toys, but as I grew older, I appreciated the deep thought that went into developing the world to be filled to the brim with hidden meanings and all sorts of wonderful things! I still frequent the MNoG game at least once a year to reminisce on how well put together the lore was. similarly, I find myself more attached to the kopaka of the past than the kopaka of the present because of all his trials I was able to read about through the books. the characterization and world development of the overall lore is hard to match, and maybe unfair in it's extensiveness to the incoming generation, but still, regardless of whether you started with the mata or with the phantoka/mistika, I feel you can appreciate the lore in all of its grandeur.

League is starting to tap into that sort of magical worldbuilding with their new lore events surrounding bilgewater, and I can't wait to see what they do with shurima, ionia and the Frejlord.

I mean I guess it isn't technically canon, although it was ridiculously heavily implied that Huki and Maku were in love. Sadly, I don't believe I remember that part with Whenua. Was that in one of the books in which they're searching for the Great Kanoka Disks (apparently they spell it with a 'k')?

I believe that I don't appreciate Metru Nui quite as much because I was fairly young at the time and couldn't comprehend all of the crazy stuff going on at once. I really loved the Ignition years and there was just so much hype!!! And that animated (somewhat non-canon, I believe?) animated episodes about the Piraka with the mini-games and stuff in them were pretty awesome. Also, in my teenage angst, I think I prefer the artist they switched to after the Visorak. I liked his edgier, grittier style.

Basically Bionicles was and is quite literally the highlight of my life and really made me who I am. The plot, the sets, they're just all so fantastic! Dang I really miss them :(

indeed it is part of the search for the Great disks.

Metru nui does take a bit of time to apreciate, but it's definitely an amazing story line (except the hordika, which while it was an okay concept, was an overplayed trope) which really started showing off the lore's depth and alluded to the things to come quite frequently.

Those mini-games were definitely some of the best, and really adapted the knights kingdom game types well with beautifully done animations. Ignition started out a little bit cookie cutter with the builds, but they quickly fixed that in mahri nui with the new build styles. they were well aware of the bulk of their audience when they picked their artists through the ignition scene (here's some nostalgia for you "move along""creeps from the deep""gravity hurts""closer to the truth"=D).

Indeed, it was a good half of my current lifetime spent as well :')

Honestly I never liked Metru Nui as much probably because of how much more orderly it is and almost like the Toa are simply superheroes in a technologically advanced society (where everyone's a robot or a giant vine! :D). I have always been a fan of the more fantastical things, and the dystopian world that Ignition had. Metru Nui was most definitely well-developed, but just not my favorite I'd say.

The builds were definitely very cookie cutter in the beginning, but I still love them xD I think my favorite thing is how well the latter few years incorporated the organic, robotic, sci-fi, and fantastical.

What I don't understand is why you started off saying you hate people spamming taunts/emotes in norms. I have a lot of fun sometimes when laming as Zac (for example) and just spamming my laugh the entire game. It's just fun and I don't consider it taking the game too serious.

Like I think I kinda agree with the rest but I don't quite understand it.
