That looks pretty awesome! Great job on your make-up, too. I sure hope the sword isn't too heavy, though. It looks big! And don't let anyone get on you about not being perfect, either. They're just being rude and elitist. I hope you've had lots of fun making and wearing the costume, though, and get a chance to take some awesome pictures! I'd love to see more in the future! :D

Is it your opinion that every cosplayer has to be perfect? Sure, it's really cool to see someone pull of a cosplay with great accuracy, but it's an impossible standard. Besides that, I don't think it's very polite to have to be compared to someone else.

Yes. I said that with very clear purpose that time, because I do still recognize that different people have different opinions. The existence of an opinion, however, does not mean it is safe from criticism, as we have both made clear. I also noticed you didn't answer my question. Furthermore, your reply seems to indicate that you think it is polite to compare the works of two different people to dictate quality. Will you deny this?

What you really mean is that you didn't have an argument, so your only recourse was either retraction or retreat. Since pride prevents you from admitting you were wrong, you chose the latter.

I do have to say that I find it rather humorous you chose to focus on the fact that it wasn't about being polite instead of the fact that art is evaluated through comparison. Touchy kids are touchy.

Nah i won't deny it. If you're going to cosplay. Your goal is to attempt to look like the character. Not just show off for attention. Look at me i'm a human being with boobs!! Congrats you and billions of people.

God help us amateur homemade Cosplayers, because apparently the benchmark to beat and be judged by is professionals that are a part of a professional cosplay team, who had a professional photographer handle the pictures and posing.

Dear God, Some of us have gone to cons in our hardworked costumes. We've gotten highfives in those costumes. People have recognized us as the character we dressed up as, in those costumes. Oh the travesty, to realize that in actuality, our outfits created mostly for personal enjoyment and/or to display our support for a game or series are secretly bringing shame to us as they aren't on the same level as ones made by people who get paid to do so.

My criticism is less with what she was doing and more with how she was doing it. Selfies just look cheap and don't say pleasant things about a person. Even if she had her friend take the picture in her back yard, or a park, it would have drastically improved the quality of the photos. Otherwise, she looks good and her costume was solid. The only other thing is the prop sword, but that's a hard one to do well, so I doubt most people would be real hard on her about that. What really held it back was the pictures themselves--not the cosplay.

Btw, that's not "hating" on it at all. It's called "constructive criticism." When people generally appreciate what you're doing enough to give advice on how you can improve it, they probably are interested to see what more you could do with it.

The issue is that constructive criticism needs to look... 'constructive.'

And while I don't have an issue with you personally, what the ever popular Jar Jarvan and ApatheticCPU is doing isn't constructive.

Here's a majority of the posts, but rewritten to be constructive:

Just a few things:

Your sword is a bit big and bulky, and looks like it might be made of cardboard or some material; While it has the correct shape, it looks like it might be a bit of an issue were you to take your costume to a con or elsewhere. you might be interested in scaling it down, and applying some finish, to really round out the appearance, and make the weapon more of a size that you can easily carry around during a con.

I also notice you have tattoo's, most cosplayers aren't particularly concerned about tattoo's (seriously) BUT if you're going to a photoshoot and want to look more like Riven, You can use (insert reccomendations here) to cover it up temporarily.

Finally, I personally noted that it looks like there's a bit of bunching around the bottom of your outfit that looks a bit unflattering. There are some sprays that can be used or a slight modification of the outfit could prevent any embarassing occurences during a convention or meet up.

Otherwise, the costume looks on track! I'd encourage you to look for a nice park or Photogenic area to take your next photos!'

I don't feel a need to sugar coat it. It was a decent enough cosplay, and it looks cute on her, but those other factors detract from the photos themselves. It's really that simple: Some positive, some negative, and some suggestions about how to make it better.

The part that makes it constructive is not how you say it, but what you are saying. Could people here dress it up to sound nicer? Sure, but enough people are already giving her positive feedback that something more neutral can be seen as honest, and it isn't as if I was being an a~~hole about it either. However, I took a more negative tone to your sarcastic post, because you were jumping on the opposite extreme of the spectrum.

Don't get me wrong. I love cosplayers and fully appreciate the time and effort they put into it. However, cosplay is also an art form, and any self-respecting artist should want criticism and feedback (when it's not just people being dicks about it) to help them improve. If not, then it's hard to dispute some of the claims made by the... "less understanding" folk in this thread.

The base of Battle Bunny Riven's blade looks like a koala. At first I thought you were an Australian who did that as a joke, but it looks like the official art has that too.

Edit: If I could make a suggestion, it would have been better if you had cleared the area in front of the mirror before taking your photo, so that those items don't get caught in the shot. Even without that, you could make the photo look better with a quick bit of editing to rotate the image and crop out the bits you don't want. For example:
