Veigar Visual Update

So Veigar was the second champ I ever played, and one of my favorites for the longest time. Since Tristana and Heimerdinger have gotten some of the yordle love going around, I thought maybe Veigar could get some too. While his theme is very well grounded and unique (crazed dark yordle mage) I feel like his aesthetic has become dated, and Riot should distance him from the obvious Black Mage reference that he is currently. (I also know theres a large line of champs that need a rework before him, and he's not really a priority, still, just brainstorming :D)

I love that Veigar is the stereotypical wizard with a staff that does large amounts of magic damage. The only other champ that fits that theme is Leblanc, but her character isn't quite as exciting or loud as Veigar in my opinion. So I think revisiting his look could be an amazing opportunity to add another visual dimension to the yordle lineup.

His voiceover is perfect, in every way (except duration, he needs more lines!), and I think that alone can carry the character so far. So imagine that voice when you see my redesigns. I think the look of Veigar could do with a more serious tone, but the voice would keep him kinda silly and wacky, which is great for his tragic story.

I made these (and the skin mockups) quickly and messily, but you get the idea, he would have more form than he does currently (large head, triangle robe, pizza feet). Obviously there's room for improvement, but I thought it would be fun to explore and draw out. Let me know what you guys think, and thanks for looking!

Anyone who knows me can tell you I am all about The Tiny Master of Evil. Seeing someone else talk about him fills the black cavity where my heart once was with wonderfully warm, evil feelings. I admire the work you have put into these concepts, even if you do consider them quick and messy.

That said, I am hesitant to agree with you on all points; Veigar is the classic wizard. I can understand the desire to push him away from the thinly veiled reference to Final Fantasy's black mage, but I believe removing him from that aesthetic design and retaining the qualities that make him Veigar, is extremely difficult. The obscured face and glowing eyes immediately inform players, both new and old, this is The Tiny Master of Evil, yet anyone with a passing knowledge of videogames will also know he is a black mage, the wielder of immense, destructive power.

The majority of Veigar's current design may be stereotypical, but it is wholly unique to League of Legends; there is no other champion, outside of certain skins, that walks around with a wide-brimmed hat, robe, and magic staff (axe? wand?). And while I think the cowl is suitably silly, it also draws too close in appearance to the standard minion on Summoner's Rift.

Regardless of my disagreements, I still think you did an excellent job putting these together, and exploring different means of presenting Veigar.

I actually really like these. he's still so clearly a Wizard, but I do think his conical hat still needs a wide brim, if only to help preserve the unique shape that separates veigar from the caster minions.

Overall, I do like this idea and concept.

Pretty good stuff you have, I can't help but think that the hat is a bit too pointy, though. No offense intended also, but the White Mage concept reminds me too much of a Klansman.
