Wards as potential gold generating items?

What if wards gave their owners 1-2 gold every time they spotted a champ? But only if the champ was not visible prior to moving into the ward's range? There is some room left in the utility mastery skill tree, so this ability would be a nice fit below Scavenger (though this is up for debate concerning mastery balance). Or maybe a more expensive ward? I'm not sure if this concept would be overpowered or not, or if it could be exploited somehow :/

It would be a nice opportunity to boost the better junglers/supports that ward frequently and over a large area.

Good support utility tree option: warding is expensive! It would also be a nice (albeit subtle) nudge when you see the gold come in to check the minimap, which could introduce some balance issues but i think would be cool.

One problem - What if you place 3 normal wards and 1 vision ward on one place - you get 4 times gold each time a enemy is being seen.

Needs definitely more work, but I doubt it can be adapted to League of Legends due to current gold system. Supports are in a category where they even get as same gold as an jungler - and jungler has been bruised up to get more gold. Now with that addition of yours, support and jungler (and Lee Sin) would benefit from this and get more gold - which then leads to bad balance.

This sounds like a sick idea. It would promote warding, something that I rarely see happening at low ELO and it would give us another gold income source. Supports (In my opinion) still don't get the gold they need to buy item even with the welfare that they do get. The utility tree like CapnMonte said, is empty and generically under-used and it has a reason to be that way. It might take some tweaking though... (Maybe wards form a ruby sightstone would provide this benefit?)

The gold income from wards is small but it can make a difference. In one of my recent games, I managed to place 11 wards across 30 minutes of gameplay. Assuming each ward spotted 3 champions on average, that is a total of 33-66 gold for the whole game. Wards that are placed in more strategic locations may produce more gold than say: one in baron pit at 5 minutes, so it also encourages better ward placement.

wards are already the best item in the game

The problem with this is that any lane or player could abuse this, it'd be a support mastery though, very deep into the tree to make sure that no one could get it without committing to a support build.

Step 1) Go to the middle of enemy bot lane between towers Step 2) Place down 3 wards from your sightstone Step 3) Play very aggro. Acquire free gold every tiime they try to come back.

Alternatively, tri-warding Baron, a buff, or anything really.
