#FriendsForAmumu
This is an idea due to the following thread. It got me brainstorming. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/a1i8OEvJ-youre-not-alone-amumu-skin-event
The video for Amumu was astonishing and mesmerizing. Probably the single best thing Riot has released which had NOTHING to do with a sale, or an ultimate skin coming out or anything along those lines. But what it did was spark my brain as soon as I saw the above linked post on the boards.
Let us use this video as an analogy.
Depression and Anxiety Disorders are serious, real, life changing afflictions. What if Amumu is a metaphor of this? A real life walking, talking, destructive child suffering from a serious condition that makes him feel like he will never have a friend and be alone for the rest of his existence? Thousands of children, teenagers, and even adults suffer from this exact problem only in real life. It can be a horrible experience. I have several friends who actually suffer from these disorders. They can make even the simplest things in day to day life extremely difficult to do. So what does this have to do with Amumu and why does he need friends?
Amumu is, in my opinion and imagination (though more than likely not done on purpose by Riot), the digital living embodiment of a child suffering through something he doesn’t understand and feels doomed that he will forever be without any friends at all. And thousands of people suffer this exact same thing. So where does my idea pop in?
The #FriendsForAmumu charity event. I’m not talking about making some skins that Riot will have to spend resources and time on. I was thinking something simple that could have the bulk of the work done PLAYER SIDE to help those in the real world using League as the catalyst.
I propose a player made contest to create 5 special #FriendsForAmumu summoner icons. Good ole Riot would receive the submissions from the player base directly. As the players we could have everything submitted right here on the boards and narrow down the icons created down to 10 and send those 10 to Riot who would, in turn, pick 5 of them to best represent the spirit of this event. In turn Riot could sell these community created icons at their regular price in RP and donate the majority (or all of if they are feeling nice) of the proceeds to a charity. The one that caught my interest is http://www.adaa.org/ and they even work with children and teenagers (which is a plus in my book since this is, after all, about Amumu). Riot could even go the extra mile and donate a percentage of proceeds from all Amumu skins purchased (including the sad mummy ward skin).
This also stems from the South Park episodes that made fun of social media. Well why not use social media as a tool to promote awareness. #FriendsForAmumu could be the first of its kind; public awareness coming from a video game. We could design t-shirts with art and the #FriendsForAmumu hash tag. I even have a co-worker whose family owns a t-shirt silk screening company. Could be perfect.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Rubbish? Or a brilliant idea?
Reds I would REALLY love to hear from you guys as well to see if good ole Riot would be onboard with this.
