##Lore:
"The Keepers are no more - Wait, am I the bad guy here?" - Icarus

"There is an ancient tale about a group of mystic knights seeking knowledge and powerful weapons to protect it against those who want to abuse those powers for their own sake and for Runeterra's misery. In time and history, this was nothing but a rumor - a story told when bedtime arrives, when people gather around a fireplace and entertain themselves, for that it was just a tale.

Those knights called themselves 'Keepers of Downfall' and were in truth underneath everyone's awareness - they protected Runeterra and its people, no matter which fractions they belonged, only to keep this world away from its eventual doomsday.
Unfortunately the knights were extincted - only one alive - Icarus, who eventually murdered the 'Keepers of Downfall' to wield the strongest weapons.

From his childhood on, Icarus was treated like a knight. With young years, he had to surpass everyone's expectations and had to fullfill his role as the next protector of Runeterra - a burden and a huge responsibility given to a child. With time, he accepted his fate and his role he was forced into.

As a teenager, he always kept a glimpse whenever he saw the books and weapons of destruction which were sealed and asked himself why the knights never used them to protect Runeterra from all of its evil foes. In fact, when Icarus finally killed all of the knights and took all of the knowledge and weapons with him, he became not only evil - but also cursed. The weapons and the knowledge were sealed away for a good reason, because they curse the wearer, increasing his power but also consuming his life.

On the edge of his life, he entered the Institute of War - Where all of his swords and knowledge would be safe, but not taken away from him, as he will fight only to be able to hold and protect them."

##Champion Explanation - Icarus, the lost Pathfinder

  • Icarus, despite of his appearance, is a very proudful knight, but just got "unlucky". Even though he murdered all of the Keepers of Dawnfall, he just tried to use those weapons for a better cause. But no matter how high his goals were, he turned evil and his life was after then dedicated to be short - until he gave up and joined the League of Legends to hold those powers in cage.
  • Icarus' classification is a bit complicated. Even though he is a swordmaster, he is partially also a magic user - because of the knowledge he consumed before.
  • The special thing about Icarus - his weapon armoury - Icarus starts with a normal Greatsword that is in a sheathe. When he buys one of several weapons that can be bought (He can only have one at once), the sheathe stays as it is, but whenever he draws the sword, it changes to a different shape of blade as like above in the picture. Furthermore, the more kills gained with one weapon, it will increase and evolve further and grant tremendous power.
  • Icarus' different skins change his appearance and his beginner weapon, but never his weapons - Due to the variety of different weapons, he already has diversity.
  • As said above, Icarus can purchase (Similiar to Viktor) one special sword just for him. Each sword has different unique passives and stats, allowing Icarus and the player to choose a path - What do you want to be? A Tank? A Bruiser? A Jungler? A ranged Fighter? An Assassin? Become what you want!
  • One of the sword that can be purchased "ExCaliber" is a ranged fighter item. No other sword changes the attack pattern of Icarus like this item. As seen in the image of Icarus, his weapon's hilt is bound by a chain. He can use those chain to deal a ranged attack. He throws the Greatsword like a harpoon.

##Stats:

Health 379 (+80)
Attack damage 45.5 (+3.1)
Health regen. 5 (+0.62)
Attack speed 0.633 (+3.3%)
Armor 17 (+3.5)
Magic res. 30 (+0)
Range 130 (Melee)
Mov. speed 340

##Abilities:

###Blades of Dawnfall
Icarus' passive allows him to buy one of five unique Greatswords that differ in appearance and gameplay. Each unique Greatsword grants different stats and unique passives that upgrades abilities or different patterns in which the player wants to invest/believe. Greatswords can be only bought once and will stay forever, until they are sold for half of the gold amount spent. Swords can be only upgraded by killing minions, monsters or champions with the current Greatsword.

Enemies within are damaged by 70/85/100/115/130 (+50% total AD) physical damage and enemies on the edge receive 50% of the damage. | Ability | Name | Effect | Type | Range | Cost | Cooldown |- | Ultimate | Maximum Burst | Icarus charges his blade to its full maximum potential in its sheathe - while abilities are allowed and the Ultimate can be recast anytime to activate its purpose - the longer Icarus waits, the more bonus damage he can put into this one single strike. When recast, Icarus draws his blade and dashes up to 550 range long and 350 range wide area forward. Icarus deals 120/170/230(+45%/55%/65% Bonus AD) (x 1x 1/2/3 seconds) physical damage (max 360/510/690). This can be cast when "Mundane & Magic" is active, too. |MC + D|550||110 / 90 / 70

##Concept Explanation & Personal Opinion Icarus is unique as it stands - he can be built with different greatswords to fullfill the role the player wants to fullfill. Are you going to play on Top and you're the only one who can go tank? Take a tank role! If you're the only one AD despite of the Marksman, then go for the Bruiser Sword! You're jungling? Go jungle! All you want, in one Champion.. except being mage/marksman. But hey, I can't do everything.

Yes, while it is true that Icarus has some elements similiar to Garen - Icarus is solely based on the players "skill level". What I mean is that Q needs to be timed well, it's not based on "give movement speed to chase around and then hit'n'run". W is a passive but can tremendously damage the opponent combined with Q. E is a "reversed" spin of Garen's or Wukong's spins. Instead of shouting the blade outwards and spin on its own axis - Icarus kinda spins while the blade is straight in the middle, which damages opponents heavily when they are inside and deals half damage when the edge (Icarus) is hitting them. In any case, Q is there to stun the opponent and offer to use E and keep him inside and deal great damage. Last, but not least - the Ultimate, which is for both gap closing and finishing off. Hard to hit because the enemy player can already see that Icarus activated his Ultimate and is ready to use it.

All in all, Icarus is strong - but against individual targets. He lacks of survivability and his only escape ability is his Ultimate. For that he has one of five Greatswords to equip as compensation. You can give him the ability to sustain, the ability to withstand the enemy attacks or give him the ability to harass his opponent in laning phase. You can give him the ability to outburst opponents in quick success or give him the ability to be a greater jungler than most due to his stronger jungler item that increases your own team's defense, while taking one item slot away from you.

##Quotes: I'll add probably the quotes later.. if I decide to. I don't feel like as if it would be good enough what I have.

I TOTALY LOVE THIS CHAMP <3

10/10

would instabuy

Having left that clear, there are some points I'd like to address. I won't lie to you. I see some problems with sword evolutions, if he gets early farm + kills/assists, he can snowball harder than anyone has ever snowballed before. However, if he hardly gets farm/kills he can be really left out, as it will take him a fair deal of time to evolve a sword.

I suggest that every sword levels up along with him (tier2 at lv9, tier3 at lv13, maybe) not only to prevent snowball, but also to keep him relevant along the match even if he changes sword.

Now, I see a lot of potential in his marksman sword, but since only every 3rd attack is ranged, keeping distance in a fight would be almost impossible without minions or other enemies around. Why not increase the basic atk count to 4, so that it ALWAYS synchronizes with his W? AND after ability cast, his next BA should always be ranged, that way you can put his Q and R in good use to combo out ranged atks. (I also believe that his passive BA range should increase with ExCaliber level, not enough to make him ranged, but enough so that ranged attacks can slightly out-range most marksmen on the lategame to compensate the range gating.)

Also,I find the 30% CRD on Yamato completely ridiculous, there is a reason no item gives off so much CDR, its fairly unbalanced. Also, a high amount of sustain and the item 3153 passive doesn't fit the role of the assassin, you should be able to blow up targets as quickly as possible before they burst you down for being a squishy target. I will suggest you to change the CDR for Armor Penetration, drop the lifesteal, give him the Destroyer MS boost, and instead of the item 3153 passive, why not: "BA Damage increases by 1% per 3%/2%/1% of target's missing health, and apply Grievous Wounds for 2 sec to enemies under 30%/40%/50% health." This way you will fulfill your role as an assassin/duelist as you should be able to finish off wounded targets without having much anti-tank potential. (After all, Tanks are Assassins' biggest counters.)

Finally, when describing his role you said: Even though he is a swordmaster, he is partially also a magic user - because of the knowledge he consumed before. Yet, he deals NO MAGIC DMG. It would be nice if he had some small AP ratios on his skills and a Magic sword made for sustained mixed dmg with heavy utility capabilities, like a sword that gives AP, CDR, mana regen, bonus magic dmg on hit and as a passive, each ability can give a different utility effect (maybe, the stun on Q is converted to AOE, upon reaching Tranquility a shield is activated, E can have a slow effect inside the AoE and bonus range for R, making him an AP bruiser with heavy disruption but lowering his overall dmg).

This last paragraph is just a small idea, it may be unbalanced or out of the champ's context/identity. Still, I think it could work, given his description and flexible build paths. (As a side-note: I would totally build this with item 3091, lol.)

In conclusion, this is the type of champ that would NEVER be out of the meta. I think he's got a lot of potential, and I really hope that he gets to fight in the Fields of Justice. If you read this, tnx for listening some of my thoughts, I hope this was helpful.

tl;dr

  1. Yamato needs Armor Pen, MS and bonus dmg to dying targets, instead of CDR and sustain.
  2. Marksman sword is awkward to use. Range should also be given after using abilities for comboing out ranged BA's better.
  3. Instead of jungle sword, magic dmg sword for teh lolz.
  4. And most important of all, lets give this man an applause for coming up with such a great idea for a champ. Peace out.
The Neverworld2 votes

If you mind, can I answer your feedback? First of all, thanks for putting so much time in it!

A. Yamato
Yamato is classified as an Assassin item due to the given passive. The stats given are essentially THE items that Icarus needs, when he wants to be the Assassin to burst down his targets. Unfortunately, his abilities aren't made to outburst. As you can see in his abilities, his Q gives direct hit with basic attacks - his W is a passive that gradually increases his attackspeed, his E is a spin and his Ultimate is a extreme dash.
However, because of his W passive, he needs to build attackspeed in order to create constant damage. This constant damage is what makes him burst. With lifesteal, he can build up the attackspeed while getting attacked and in the end, his Q will deal tons of true damage because of the W passive build-up. CDR decreases his Q's cooldown and allows him, combined with his passive and sustain, to build up infinitely his W and to follow up with a Q burst.

B. "Ranged Fighter"
I named it for a special reason. The trick behind is, to stack the passive on a nearby minion or in a teamfight on a nearby enemy Champion (mostly the tanks) - when you successfully are able to do a ranged attack, you use E to receive higher range - and you can use your Q to stun the enemy APCarry or Marksman, which allows a fast takeover of the enemy team and leads to a win. If used with ability-use, it would be a bit awkward, as he then is constantly able to do this.

C. "Magic"
I get what you mean. Do you know, that if you summon a giant rock above your enemy, you don't deal magic damage - but physical damage?
In fact, Icarus magic talents and knowledge are sidious. His E is a spin that makes his sword illusionary and visually bigger, to increase his range. His Ultimate charges his blade while infusing with magic, to then unleash it on his foes. It is all magic, but enhances his physical ability.
While you're right that it would be good to add some AP ratios and a AP Sword - I don't think that it would be that great. Let's say Icarus is in the League of Legends - He's probably unbalanced. When one of his abilities gets nerfed, his meta gets nerfed too. And imagine if you fight against Icarus - you never know which strategy he follows, as an assassin or tank, but he will always deal physical damage. But if the AP Sword would come, you'll never know or atleast it might be over till you know it.

D. Level-Up Swords
Like you said about the 30% CDR - it's powerful, more powerful than any item. In truth, you are right. And in all honesty, this powerful item deserves atleast 60 minion/monster kills. You have to buy your sword for 1000 (or 300 jungler item) and then farm 30 for rank 2 and 30 for rank 3. If it levels up like you said, with Champion Level, there are two problems: You can't sell your item anymore to buy another and upgrade it. You can't buy it after you are lvl 18 (Because some might think that other items give more or less what they want as Icarus). Another thing is.... if it levels up with Champion Level, you get for 1000 Gold free stats through out the game. No matter if you fail, go AFK or troll, you always get free evolving stats and a strong item. I wouldn't want this unhealthy mechanic, sorry

Argomecha Perdix2 votes

Wow! You actualy read it all! I'm flattered :D

I see your points, and I actually agree on most, but maybe I didn't left clear some of my views, just saying.

A. Mainly my point with Yamato is that although you do fulfill the role of an assassin, you can fulfill EVERY other AD role with it! You can do exceptional dmg with it, and you can go and stack Tank items and become unkillable: CDR you don't need it; Lifesteal, pfff Yamato has pleny; AD, Yamato gives a fair amount of AD + 5% of target's hp. Indeed his abilities can't burst down opponents, but neither Master Yi's, Zed's nor Nocturne's spells can, why? Because they are AutoAttacking assassins. They, like Icarius, rely on BA's to deal dmg. I believe that the point of having different swords is to set very different play-patterns, rather than to indiscriminately boost overall stats. Every sword has to be balanced on equal terms with the rest or you'll end up with another Viktor that only relys only on Augment: Death. My suggestion was to increase BA dmg to wounded targets so you can pick up kills the way any assassin champ should, even if its only with BA's while keeping him vulnerable, since he would neeed to stack LS, aside from Yamato.

B. If you noticed, I didn't suggest to remove the play pattern on ExCalibur. Indeed it is imperative that Icarius has to pick up targets close to him in order to gate his ranged attacks, but what I meant was that relying only on BA's would be a bit awkward gameplay-wise (at least for me :p), by increasing the gating but also relying on ability use you could do some good combos in order to keep distance from enemies while pushing a tower, or to catch up fleeing targets, etc. Just an opinion, though. I know he isn't meant to be a full marksman, but opening chanses to do more than 1 every 3 attacks ranged would be nice. (A ranged stun and true dmg attack are a beautiful tradeoff for ExCalibur's inherent squishyness.) Still, just my two cents.

C. You said it, I said it, and I think we can all agree that AP sword could be (fairly) unbalanced.

D. I never meant to suggest a unhealthy mechanic D: I think I didn't explain myself correctly. Let me rephrase that. Sword level is UNLOCKED at champion level. Tier 1 available at lvl 1, tier 2 at lvl 9, tier 3 at lvl 13. (The lvl gap between T1 and T2 is because you first need to farm and collect enough gold for it, so you'll probably be getting you T1 sword at lvl 5~6.)(Current sword should also lvl up along with you.) You should be able to buy a higher lvl sword at a higher price when unlocked, to avoid getting free stats as you said. (I really did missed that point, sorry.) This mechanic would also allow players who are behind to stay relevant to the match, while keeping fed players in line (if get fed you are still going to snowball like a boss >:D). Also, changing sword mid or late-game should be more efficient, since you wouldn't have to go FeralFlaring (lol) to stay relevant in combat. The only trade-off should be the higher sword price at a higher level (maybe T1 at 1000 gold, T2 at 2000, and T3 at 3000?)

tl;dr

  1. Thank you for noticing me senpai <3
  2. Yamato OP, you can just build it with tank items and nobody wants another Augment: Death. All swords should be balanced on equal terms.
  3. Gating ranged attacks is necessary, no arguing about that... but I insist that combos would be nice.
  4. AP OP.
  5. Swords UNLOCK with level to avoid snowballing/FeralFlaring. (Increased stats = Increased price)
  6. Everything I wrote are just my two cents. Peace out.
The Neverworld1 votes

Funny, you act like a girl. Weird xD

I think Yi and Zed are a bad comparison.. Yi can actually burst with his E that gives a formidable amount of AD, his Q can critically strike (and deals tremendous damage). Zed on the other hand is nothing without his Ultimate that gives him so much burst.
Well.. what I want to say - the sword items aren't just "Items". Instead giving him base stats and abilities to fullfill the role of an assassin, he gets for 1000 Gold and 60 CS the opportunity to get those stats he needs.

Well for me it's a change of the play pattern if he doesn't have to focus on stacking the passive on nearby enemies, but gets the opportunity whenever he uses a ability. You know why I'm strictly against (nothing against you of course) - but this play pattern is too similiar to current Gangplank. But instead like Gangplank to hit the enemy every 5 seconds with a range basic attack, Icarus would be able to use it whenever he want and without any counterplay against, and that's what doesn't make me feel right about it.

Yeah it would be ^^

Now I get it - but.. I know you gave some great feedback, but I can't change it like that for two reasons.
First, I repeat what I wrote earlier in the same post. Those swords are not just items like Infinite Edge, Bloodthirster or Ravenous Hydra. They are one half piece of what Icarus can be. Those items are very powerful and offers the player what he wants to play. For an example, let's take.. a random Champion like Katarina. She's mean, she's small, she's bursting you with her high ap.ratio. Let's say Katarina without AP.Ratios is Icarus. The swords are the things that add the AP.Ratios to her abilities. 1+1 = Katarina. So like in this case. But the player is never forced to buy them.

If unlocking with level, it means that the item has to have a greater gold cost for each rank. That means, that for each new rank of the item, Icarus has to buy the upgrade itself. Which again.. makes Icarus based on gold income which I don't want. As I wrote, the item is the other piece of Icarus. Binding it on champion level and gold income would make it unbalanced and what's important, incredibly unpopular.

And again, thanks for your feedback.. I feel mean that I can't take them in consideration as I am always giving myself a hard time before posting, to check everything before releasing it.. :/

O_o wasn't Icarus the boy who flew too close to the sun? Maybe a different name would suit him better. But other than that, I love this champion design!

The Neverworld1 votes

And Nero was the one who ruled Rome and burnt it down - who slept with his mother and murdered innocents.

However - Names have meanings and names are used to suit a person. Even if there was a person called Icarus (And yes, you are right), doesn't mean it doesn't suit to any other person if he does not fly too close to the sun.

Cool concept. I clicked on the link for the example E, and it just took me back to this post. Might need a fix? His W interaction with his Q sounds strange, more like an execute than anything. His E makes me think of a tilted Spin2Win, not much different than Garen's. One question: What does the x1/2/3 seconds multiplier on his ult mean? Thus ends my critique.

IMO, Dragonslayer Icarus looks more like General Wukong than any other Dragonslayer skin.

Try to not explode with rage at the slightest downvote, it looks unprofessional.

PublicArtillery has a point, but i can see where the name Icarus fits him. However, it is such a used & abused name, it might be a bit bland in today's realm.

The Neverworld1 votes

Thank you!

Dunno, but it works for me. Did you try to open in a new tab? Try to copy the link and enter it yourself.
The E is more of a "tornado" where Icarus is the edge and the middle is his sword, thus making it a reversed spin because it deals also more damage within as like for example on the edge.

As said in the beginning of the Ultimate, the longer the Blade stays in the sheathe, the more bonus damage is applied. X damage multiplied with 1/2/3 (seconds)

I love the idea of a champion being highly flexible, but I think you need to rework some scaling for Icarus. Honestly, try using Viktor as a base reference and transfer some ideas over to an AD perspective.

Also, the Destroyer sword can be completely removed and he would still be versatile with either ExCaliber or Yamato in jungle as far ganking potential is concerned. Otherwise Feral Flare and the Spirit Line of items will do fine. Also, it's unclear whether multiple Greatswords can be purchased or only one.

I believe if you can simplify the champion without losing its core objective of a versatile top/jungle. Otherwise, I'm very interested in this champion and wouldn't mind him in his current state - Since he can pretty much stomp around midgame like he's king.

TL;DR- Cool idea, needs tweaking P.S- fix some grammar and spelling mistakes.

The Neverworld1 votes

The special thing about Icarus - his weapon armoury - Icarus starts with a normal Greatsword that is in a sheathe.

Other than that, I never said that the items are "necessary". While indeed you can get ExCaliber or Yamato for jungle and buy Feral Flare or other jungler items too - Destroyer offers not only "more" damage against monsters (in the end 30% damage increase and 8% damage done heal is given, while every other jungler item has max 20% increased damage and 6% of the damage heals the wearer.) but gives the opportunity to share your stats to laners when you gank - late game it offers huge potential and can help your team way better.

Chilroy1 votes

Thanks for clarifying that!

Although, if Icarus used Destroyer would fall behind in jungle, not due to farm but gold income. Since the jungle usually provide bonus gold for killing monster camps. Feral Flare junglers would be only ones able to compete with Icarus if Destroyer had a gold bonus. (Noting FF's Passive - Basic attacks deal 33 (+1 per Feral stack) bonus magic damage and restore 10 (+1 per Feral stack) health. Gain 30% increased gold from monsters)

Destroyer needs a rework, as far as it's stats are concerned - it's passive is fine and promotes a lot strategic play. Although he seems unbalanced, but with some tweaks to his stats and scalings, I would love to see Icarus being considered and shaking up the top/jungle meta for a while.

The Neverworld1 votes

Fuck, I forgot to add the gold income. Thanks for the feedback, it's getting changed immediately

yes hes cool, ilike your champs, with some riot tweaks
