Hello! I can offer some assistance. As an experienced fur user, here are some pointers on where to buy and what to stay away from:
- fabric.com is my favorite for buying fur. They have a wide selection and th quality is excellent. For a job like this you only need one yard max, so it should be fairly cheap (around 26-30$ including shipping).
-don't buy fur at Joann's fabrics, just don't.
-I have experience dying fur but I'd stay away from it. Fur is made of plastic, so the dyes don't stick to it very well and it rubs off a lot. It also takes a lot of work to make sure it dries correctly and the fur doesn't end up matted @_@ its better just to buy the fur if the color is available.
-fur can however take paints well. If you have an airbrush or if you know how to dry brush than this can make transitioning colors (like for the Orange to the blue) really easy! Just make sure to comb it if you do so the fur doesn't clump up.
-cut the fur with an exacto knife, not scissors. It's faster and you won't have to deal with choppy fur ends since the scissors always end up cutting the fur strands in half.
I hope this helps! If there's any other questions feel free to contact me. I'm always willing to lend a hand.
