Background:
Neratul is a monstrous being of a solitary kind of evil, once born as a prince of Shurima, predating the Rune Wars. By the time Neratul had come of age to claim his throne, his horrible nature was well anticipated and feared amongst his people. Neratul’s father, seeking to protect his legacy, was forced to declare his youngest son Xaraxus to be named successor in Neratul’s stead. Never having truly desired the throne, yet completely disgusted at the thought of serving his younger brother, Neratul devised a solution to both matters. Discreetly, he purchased a slave man identical to his own proportions and left him butchered in his father’s throne room alongside the remains of his father’s body. Neratul then carved his own flesh from his face and donned an ornate yet unsettling mask, to preserve his newfound hideousness. When Xaraxus discovered the bodies of his father and what was presumed his brother, the guards he called for did not come to his aid, but his arrest. The people rose against the royal scandals and sentenced Xaraxus to be beheaded for murder. Neratul, eager to seize this opportunity to punish his younger brother one last time, offered to serve as the masked deliverer in his brother’s execution and in that moment whispered his confession to Xaraxus just before dealing the final blow. Neratul was rumored to have been entombed in one of the many pyramids floating above the Shurima Desert. Though, dark magic is sure to have been involved for when an ambitious young adventurer named Ezreal delved into his place of rest, Neratul’s immortal presence awoke, thirsty as ever and eager to continue his slaughter. He quickly learned of the best place to bring his terror, the League of Legends.
“It’s not the fear in their eyes from what they see, but from what yet remains unseen.” – Neratul
Notes:
Neratul’s kit allows him to be played in several team arrangements, though he serves best as a tanky bruiser who can pressure the enemy team and force them to make the difficult decision between attacking Neratul or letting him run rampant.
His ultimate allows him to punish his opponents for going all in on him with little regard for his defenses, though if improperly timed it can be devastating to Neratul’s position or even fatal.
When facing Neratul it is best to deal with him alone or force him to use his Dark Pact ability before attempting to finish him off.
When playing as Neratul try to work with your team and force your opponents into a fight they are not ready to commit to, but cannot get away from. It is best if you can attract as much focus as possible before activating Dark Pact to ensure that you will transform. Be careful not to use Dark Pact too early, as your opponents may notice and flee until it fades and then attempt to turn on you while you are left weak.
Neratul has some jungle viability via his passive, Terrifying Presence, and the sustainability granted through Feast of Fear. Though his high cooldowns and proc based fear effects will help to keep him in check and force him to make careful decisions.
