3D Printed LED Battlecast Cho'Gath

Hey guys, battlecast cho gath has always been the coolest skin in game imo, so i decided to 3d print one out as a sculpture for my desk! took about 1 week, taken 3d model from thingiverse (which was taken from the game files), then disassembled it with software. put LEDs in it, painted, assembled. had a lot of fun with this and i'm pleased with the result. measures about 13'' x 9'' x 7''

As someone who loves digital modeling myself how did you get the 3d models from the game files????? I've been stumped by that for awhile now!

I remember back in old GD, there was a thread with a link to some sort of extraction program that arranged character models by patches. Worked relatively well, I managed to pull Elise's mesh and skeleton into Maya, although no sign of an actual rig. Got a few animations to play, but I had to make my own skin-weights. I've changed computers since then, no longer have the files.

I'd kill to have access to some of the newer champions. If OP could enlighten us, he'd have my undying gratitude.

I did not actually take the model straight from the game files, i found it on thingiverse (along with almost every champion) which was taken from the game files. sorry for the confusion!

This is incredibly cool, what was the process like of getting the LEDs into the actual model and wiring it all up?

(You should print one of Veigar trying to reach for a DFG as it flies off into heaven, just to shake things up.)

This is actually pretty great. How much would one of these cost if you were to sell one? If I had money I'd probably commission a Battlecast Skarner. :D

The images and characters are "intellectual property", trademark and copyright type stuff, the terms of service are pretty irrelevant to it. Terms of service really only limits what you can do in game and with the program. They're a lot more about having you accept liability and stopping you from suing riot

Very skilled. If you are looking for another challenge. Could try making one similar one but a bit larger and with base/ bumping (not sure of the actual name for the speakers that you can see move) in his shoulder cannons as well. Not sure if it is impossible given the materials or may be expensive if bought device with them already then took off the case and put them in. But if you like it could be fun. Either way great work as is.

to make this more awesome... working speakers. for some odd reason i suddenly had a thought to put joints & motors in so the thing could move to the beat... but the speakers would be awesome to start.

I have been working with cheap 3D pritner lately and believe that you could get better results if you tuned your 3D printer settings. It seems to me that you use too much material (probably too high extruder speed). From my experience even cheap 3D printer can make smooth surface.

Though it is great work.

I am struggling with raft settings and settings of bottom layers because I cannot get solid bottom surface. And also support pillars are damn hard to get right. So you did a really great job in getting anything out that looks like something.

What 3D printer have you used? If I may ask.

I used a davinci xyz 1.0 printer. i am aware of things i can do to make it a better quality, but unfortunately there is a lot of steps because of my printer's factory settings (they dont really want you messing with those settings)

i also heard using a method with acetone gas to smooth out the surfaces, i have experimented with that method and it works pretty well, i just didn't really feel like doing that this time since i thought the paint would smooth it out, but it didnt. in my experience, that only works with enamel paints, and i used acrylic on this project.

anyways, ive only had the printer for a few months and i am still learning how to use it to the best it can. Thanks for your comment!
