[Champion Concept] Yone, The Betrayed
There once was a school for swordsman, at the foot of one of the largest mountains in Ionia. A young orphan and his little brother were brought here by one of the masters, when Noxian forces destroyed a village in a small neighboring country. One orphan showed potential and was chosen for training, while the same was yet to be decided with the other, since he was still too young. The orphans were Yone and Yasuo, brothers who would leave a major mark on the school's history.
When Yone was young, still in training, the school was attacked by bandits. His teacher was killed defending everyone, right in front of Yone's eyes. The bandits left after they got what they came for: gold, treasures, valuable texts of the school's culture and history. Yone made a promise to himself that day, then resumed his training with what masters were left. When he completed his training, young Yasuo was just beginning his own. Yone remembered the promise he made to himself, asked the elders to take care of his little brother, and he left to go avenge his old master. When he returned two decades later, he was a changed man. He had become fiercely vengeful, and took up his old teacher's role of enforcer. He protected the old masters and the young, untrained students, so that what happened to his old teacher would never happen again. Then, Noxian forces attacked.
Under the iron fist leadership of Yone, the school's warriors were able to repel the attack, only losing a small fraction of their own men. The celebrations were cut short when Yone returned to find his mentor, the man who taught him after the murder of his old teacher, slain by a wind technique... A wind technique only known by his own brother, Yasuo. Enraged that even under his protection, history had repeated itself from within the school, he and the warriors confronted Yasuo. He denied his crimes, and fought his way out of the school. With even more wounded or dead from Yasuo's escape, Yone swore to bring his brother to justice. He left alone.
He found Yasuo resting on a mountain trail, weary from running. Yone pleaded to his brother; the penalty for his crime was death, but he was willing to listen if Yasuo surrendered. Yasuo denied his crimes once more, and Yone had no choice but to bring him to answer for his crimes by force. Yone was suprised with Yasuo's skill with a blade, but had no choice but to hold back... No matter what his brother had done, he couldn't bring himself to kill him. Seeing an opportunity, Yasuo cut his brother down in a flash.
As Yasuo held Yone's dying body in his arms, he tried to tell him he didn't kill the elder, but even in his dying breath, Yone did not believe him: “The Elder was killed by a wind technique. Who else could it be?”
The next thing Yone knew, there was only darkness... Darkness and a familiar feeling. Like the feeling he had when he swore to avenge his teacher, but a thousand times stronger. His fist broke the surface of the dirt, and he pulled himself out of his makeshift grave. Yasuo had betrayed the elders, betrayed the school, and killed his own brother. The sun was setting; it looked like fire. He felt that same fire of rage within his heart, too, and clutched his blade with all his strength. He was not going to bring Yasuo to justice... He was going to bring his brother to Hell.
Hey everyone. Had an idea for
's brother as a champion! This would be Yone's dead body and eternal soul, reanimated by impossibly strong feelings of pure revenge. Imagine Thresh in samurai armor, wielding a naginata.
He has a few ways he can be built. Straight AP, a hybrid AP fighter, AS AP, and maybe jungle.
I found these pictures while looking for thematic inspiration:
Here are Yone's stats, based on the stats of similar champions:
HP 430 (+82)
HP Regen 7.45 (+.55)
Mana 260 (+40)
Mana regen 6.75 (+0.5)
Damage 51.7 (+3.5)
Range 175
AS 0.694 (+3%)
Armor 19 (+3.5)
Magic resist 30 (+1.25)
Speed 340
The numbers might not be perfectly balanced, as this is my first champion design. Feedback is welcome!
Here's his kit:
Passive: Vengeful Blade - Yone's abilities can critically strike. Yone's abilities are effected by crit chance, crit damage, and all crit-based modifiers (Frenzy mastery, etc). Vengeful Blade also grants Yone 1% crit chance per 10 AP.
[This is likely to be the most controversial part of his kit, but it seems about as balanced as Yasuo's passive. A full AP build should get to around 55 - 60% crit chance. It can get a little high on a hybrid build of 3 AP items, Infinity Edge, Phantom Dancer; like around 80 - 90% with a hybrid build, but only if it's completely glass cannon. So it seems okay.]
Q: Spectral Slash - Yone slices his naginata across the ground, sending a blast of spectral energy in a line in front of him, which erupts from the ground after a short delay, dealing magic damage to all enemies standing on the line. Spectral Slash can be casted twice per activation.
Cooldown: 10 seconds Mana Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 Range: 900 Line Damage: 35/50/65/80/100 (+30% AP) magic damage
[This is a basic line nuke, similar to Ahri Q or Vel'koz W. It can be casted twice upon activation, kind of like Ahri's ult. You only pay mana for the first cast. I imagine this being somewhat dodgeable, since it has the advantage of shooting two nukes per cast. Also tried to get the damage somewhat low, since not only can you cast this twice, but his passive allows it to crit. Erupts from the ground, so it doesn't get blocked by his brother's Wind Wall!]
W: Spiteful Edge - Yone swipes his blade in front of him, dealing continuous slashes in a cone over 3 seconds. Yone can move and cast spells during these 3 seconds, but can't attack or turn.
Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 Mana Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Range: 600 Cone Damage: 10/20/30/40/50 (+20% AP) (+1 per 2% bonus Attack Speed) magic damage per second for 3 seconds
[This is my favorite of his skills. It's very similar to Corki's E and Pantheon's E, as it's a damage-per-tick ability in a cone in front of him. It's similar to Lucian's ult as well, since Yone can move around, but he does not change his facing direction til the ability is done channeling. In regards to % attack speed adding to the damage, I thought this was really cool thematically, since he's striking and slashing so many times, and it makes buying Phantom Dancer, Statikk Shiv, or Trinity Force for the crit chance feel a little better, since the attack speed is put to good use.]
E: Vindictive Chase - A spectral horse materializes beside Yone, already galloping forward. Yone grabs it and mounts, dashing forward on horseback. After dashing, Yone remains on horseback for 5 seconds. If Vindictive chase is cast again within that 5 seconds, Yone's horse rears up, and slams his hooves down after a short channel, dealing magic damage and stunning in a small area. This skill goes on cooldown for 5 seconds if Yone is damaged by a champion.
Cooldown: 18/16/14/12/10 Mana Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Range: 650 Damage: 40/60/80/100/120 (+40% AP) magic damage Stun Duration: 1.5 seconds
[I like this, thematically, since the naginata was primarily a mounted weapon and samurai did a lot of mounted combat, although I'm unsure if a horse really fits within Valoran. The horse could be potentially replaced with a more "Valoran"esque mount, but I have no idea what it would be. The 5 second cooldown upon taking damage from a champion differentiates this skill from other dashes, in that it isn't a getaway skill so much as an initiation skill. Character's with dashes are notoriously difficult to gank or get a hold of, but this 5 second cooldown creates some good counterplay. When ganking Yone, you can communicate to your ally laning against him to harass a bit before you go on him, so he can't dash out. During a teamfight retreat scenario, he'll have to juke for at least 5 seconds to be able to get out. This makes his dash better at initiating, and doesn't just make him an overly mobile character like many we've seen released in the last year or two.]
R: Spirit Hemorrhage - Yone channels his spiteful powers of vengeance, sapping the lifeforce of those around him. Champions nearby Yone degenerate a % of their max hp per second, and Yone gains a shield equal to half the amount.
Cooldown: 150/135/120 Mana Cost: 100 Range: 400 Damage: 4/5/6% (+.2% per 100 AP) of max HP per second. Shield equals half the damage. Duration: 5 seconds
[I've tried balancing these numbers but I can't decide what's too much and what isn't, so I just left them as is. They might be completely broken. Thematically it's probably Yone's least fitting skill, but I think it's alright.]
So, his kit has a bit of initiation, and he has potential to be AS AP or full AP glass cannon, tanky AP fighter, or maybe even jungle.
Well, that's my idea for Yone, The Betrayed. I hope everyone liked it. Once again, this is my first time posting a champion concept. Feedback is welcome!
