[Prologue] Life & Sacrifice - Angstrom Darkwater

On the northeast of Bilgewater, there is a tropical island hidden beneath thick fog. Noone dared to enter these mysterious waters as the risk was greater than the reward.

10 years ago it was a place for two famous and fierce pirates - Though rivals to the deepest bones, they secretly met from time to time and became friends in secret.

Whenever they met, they talked about life, women and drank so much that they had been gone missing for days.

However, one of the conversations and the last one they had, had marked an age of new pirates.
One of the pirates, Vincent the Shadow, was frightened and angry when he heard what his friend Angstrom told him.

Vincent: "Are you insane? You can't stop being a pirate - this is no question of choice but something that lies in your blood!"

Angstrom: "Vincent, my friend, don't you think that our fights in the public are of no use?"

Vincent: "Of no use? We are ruthless pirates who murder and loot to survive and live a life in freedom. Did you lose your goal, Angstrom?"

Angstrom: "It is nothing I want. I will retire myself as an pirate. Bilgewater does not need more than two pirate captains who fight over this land and its sea."

Vincent: "I see.. you really lost your goal.."

Angstrom: "Vincent, listen to my words; There is a rumor outgoing that in Valoran there will be something like an institute. If this happens, there will be no war"

Vincent interfered in hope that Angstrom made a joke.

Vincent: "No war? This is nonsense! As long as humankind exists, war will exist in coexistence"

Angstrom: "I have to disappoint you my friend. When the rumors are right, almost every nation will participate and fight their wars in a civilized way"

As Angstrom finished, Vincent was speechless.

Angstrom: "Vincent, I want you to rule over the sea as the greatest pirate. If I am there too, we will lose Bilgewater to those bureaucrats and pirates will never be free"

Though Vincent was against, there was nothing that he could do to stop Angstrom.
Before Angstrom left the island..

Vincent: "Did I tell you the news? I have a boy.. his stupid mother hid herself from me, but I found him in the end. I won't be there always to protect Bilgewater against the rest of the world - I will make my son worthy of this role once I am unable to do."

With the last words, Vincent and Angstrom left the island of friendship and never met again.
