Shadow Isles Marksman Concept

I had previously posted this on Reddit, but it's edited and I feel like this is the natural home for the post.

Strix: The lament of souls

TL;DR - Imgur Gallery imgur.com/a/ejtcZ (I can't link imgur directly, the forum trys to stack all the animated gifs on top of each other. If you want a hyperlink you can see most of it here http://anselan.deviantart.com/gallery/
Note: The Q in the animations is out of date, the description below is up to date.)

Someone shared my concept with Riot Ezreal, and he seemed pretty positive about it. https://twitter.com/Glaedien/status/380142772717514752

Lore: There are tales of dancing lights throughout Runeterra, dating back thousands of years. Each culture has their own explanation. Some claim they are lost souls searching in the night and that seeing one imparts unbearable sadness. Others say they are the souls of the dead coming back to claim the living for their own.

Both are right.

There are often reports of an ominous figure seen near the lights, the screeching of owls echoing in the darkness, and sometimes, if one listens closely, the whispers of loved ones calling out. Each region has their own moniker for this figure, but it was upon Mount Targon where the first sighting was recorded and so that is the name we will use.

Strix. Those who witness it are filled by both pity and dread. It seems forced along, as if against its will. Cries of anguish ring out as it hunts down prey, not cries of victory. The dark magics of the Shadow Isles propel it along with merciless purpose.

Strix is conjoined prison and weapon, existing to house the souls that have been returned to the Shadow Isles that they may be used as munition. To speak of its past is to speak of countless lives lived, loves lost. But if there was an original soul that called this form home, and you would be wise to doubt such theories, it has long since burned away.

“The owls are not what they seem.” - Old Runeterran proverb

Move List:

Note: I didn't fill in any of the damage values, or mana costs. The idea is that he'll be a utility ADC similar to Ashe. He's designed to help facilitate a team that lacks a hard engage.

Passive: Ghost lights

Autoattacks apply ghost lights to target struck for six seconds. A ghost light provides vision of itself and nearby visible units. A ghost light affecting an invisible unit will still be visible, but will not provide vision of the invisible unit.

If a large jungle creep or enemy champion dies while affected the ghost light will ignite, remaining as a ward that will burn out after XX seconds. (The maximum number of soul wards increases by one at level 6 and level 12, for a total of 3.)

Q - Ghost march (changed this from reddit)

Rectangular path. Strix fires a shot, and as the shot goes forward it pulls in ghost lights from all units in the rectangle. The more ghost lights pulled in the more distance the projectile has.

W - Soul Strike

Passive: Strix gains armor penetration against targets marked with a ghost light. X/X/X/X/X

Toggle: Strix's auto attacks do an extra X/X/X/X/X damage and any target killed by an auto attack has their Ghost Light ignited, leaving behind a ward. (edit:This ward counts towards his passives total, and each auto attack while toggled would cost mana)

E - Fear the reaper

A cone based attack, applies Ghost lights to all units hit. Damages enemies hit and slows their movement toward Strix for X seconds, minions and monsters hit are forced to flee from Strix.

R - Path of the Dead Strix channels for X seconds, and the owls detach from his body.

If Strix does not reactivate his ultimate, and no ally clicks the owls within time, the owls will launch forward dealing X/X/X bonus damage, marking each target struck, and then return to Strix.

Edit: In case that's not clear, basically he channels his ult. If he reclicks he sends himself in. If an ally clicks the owls they send themselves in. If no one clicks, he just shoots an attack.

Having talked to a few Rioters at PAX, I know one of the big problems with this is he doesn't "read" as a character that would do attack damage. I very much agree with that. He looks like you should be taking magic damage. It makes me wish there was a way to build an auto attacking AP character.

OMG WTF BBQ!

LOL, you did a lot of art on this, too bad I'm not really cognitive enough right now to do the reading part, saving this for later.

ah, I love the concept of will-o-wisps and ghosty things. Not sure I entirely understand his passive but I mostly just skimmed so meh. :u His attacks are all pretty unique, would be interesting to see what shenanigans you could get up to with his ult. Good work. c:

Ok I did read it now, though not the same, I do feel this identity overlaps with thresh to much, he has a scythe like a reaper, he enslaves souls which kind of puts him one up on a ghost champion, er maybe Mordekaiser enslaves and Thresh captures...

Interestingly enough Thresh can build a strong auto attack, so a hybrid marksmen could work, but the identity isn't quite catchy enough...

Tough to say what would make a good shadow Isles marksmen... But he's got some beast allies, so he's gotta be cooler, and a she might be better.

Is there a Banshee archetype in LoL yet?
