Laughing Fish Is a Poor Moderator

A few weeks ago, I made a post in Memes and Games in jest towards one of your moderators, Laughing Fish, which was promptly locked.

A few days ago, a user did a similar thing, in a post that has not been locked.

The difference? One was a post that suggested Laughing Fish isn't the king of memes, and another suggested he might be. Guess which one was locked?

Laughing Fish's explanation is that the other person's post was "about his experience" despite the fact that those search terms won't give you the results he claims. The user made a meme, including a fake background story, directed at someone else. Yet somehow this post is acceptable.

As I stated in that post, it makes no sense that the only prerequisite for mentioning another user is an "experience". It's been pointed out to me that specific players aren't to be mentioned on the boards at all, so I can understand why my original post was removed. Why the second one hasn't been removed seems to be because Laughing Fish enjoys it.

M&G should be an equal opportunity memeployer. If I can't mention others, no one else should be allowed to either, and it shouldn't be up to moderators to decide that based on how they feel.

This isn't the place to voice personal disputes with mods. I recommend heading to the Boards Moderation Discord if you felt like your post was unjustly removed.

I can attempt to clarify the reason for the lock, though. The first thread you linked was not substantial enough to be a topical thread on its own without the mention. The second thread, however, did because of the sub-text and context taking center-stage, the mention towards Laughing Fish being a minor detail.

In short, when you want to mention a specific person in a thread, ask yourself if the thread is substantial enough without the mention to be on its own. If it is not, more than likely your post does not meet the minimum requirements to be excluded from the "Private Message" posts that are against the Boards' rules.

Hope this cleared some things up. If not, you can head to the link provided above to talk about it with us. We encourage open discussion about these matters, so you can take advantage of these resources.

Your first post approaches a discussion in Memes and Games from a political standpoint and political discussions are a no go because of the can of worms it inevitably opens. In addition to being extremely low effort, not being very funny, and lacking in content to provide community interaction as melledoneus has stated.

It's a pretty borderline topic for Memes and Games. Probably erring a bit too far towards caution locking it so quickly, but it's not an unreasonable action.

Our wardens have been doing this for all of a month. They're going to have a learning curve to become excellent moderators and it's important when you have a small issue like this that you head over to the discord and have a proper conversation about it as that can often help allieviate any misconceptions or miscommunications.

Hey Slimegoon,

I am sorry that you feel that way, but there was a distinct difference in your thread that was locked vs the other thread that wasn't. You thread was made directly to me and about me. The entire purpose of the thread was about me, the entire body of the thread was about me, and without the reference to me the thread would be empty. As such, it was counted as a community-centric post, which are better made in General Discussion or Miscellaneous.

The other thread however was ultimately about the poster themselves, and an experience they had. Their experience happened to include me. Basically, in your thread I was the main character, but in the other thread the poster was the main character and I was the supporting character.

For more information, I would recommend reading the Memes and Games Rules and Guidelines. If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reply to this comment, or better yet come chat with me live on our Moderation Discord Server.

Giving a professional low effort shitposter a mod position is like giving the patients of the mental ward all the keys.
