Since Melledoneus isn't a mod anymore, can I at be credited for the guide that I wrote?

Greetings!

As you may know, Memes & Games has a Posting Images and Gifs on the Boards post pinned to the top. This guide was written entirely by me, where I did all the work creating it. However, it is credited to Melledoneus. This was perfectly fine for awhile, as he was a mod in charge of M&G so it made sense his name should be there. The fact it hasn't been in my name for this time is not at all a problem, as there were very legitimate reasons to have someone else's signature on my work.

However, since he is no longer a moderator, and since neither he nor anyone else in the mod team has kept it up to date (as there is more info that can be added, and it can be formatted far better now due to boards changes by Wuks during this time), I would like to request that I receive credit for the work I did. The only reason it would be in Melledoneus's name is because he was a mod and I wasn't, as he did not write the guide even slightly, it was written completely by me. Since that reason is no longer true, I think it would be reasonable for the person who did all the work, the person who wrote it, and the only person willing to put that much effort into M&G be credited for the work they did alone.

Hey! Sorry for the delay. I'd be happy to pin that thread in your name if you want to repost it, as it definitely was your work. If you'd prefer to simply have your name added I can do that (Edit: I did already, just in case), but a repost seems like it would be cleaner all around.

And is there a reason you didn't ask him or the moderator team on discord? You know how to use that, it allows for much more quick responses and access.

Seems as if you're publicizing this just to "get back" at them for something and make them look bad.

The wait is long af usually, and didn't feel like waiting around. Discord is quicker in raw time from bringing up an issue and solving it. However, discuss the boards is easier on both the poster and the moderators as they can both just post and answer at their convenience with no time pressure.

Like if something comes up and you don't answer for an hour or two on the boards nobody blinks an eye, but if you are suddenly silent on discord during a conversation for a full hour it is seen as rude. So unless something is time sensitive (which this is surely not), I prefer the boards.

The Discord is where you want things done in the shadows, where no one else will know about it. It's fine for reporting something, or minor grievances, but matters of larger policy should be brought before the public. This seems the appropriate place for the discussion.

In a case like this, requesting a different post pinned - particularly if it's going to be updated - makes sense.

I don't even need a different post. I would just like my name on it somewhere since it is my work. When it was a matter of they wanted a moderator's name on a pinned message so they could update it and have it part of the mod team that made sense. Hence why I never said anything, as they were doing the perfectly reasonable thing.

But times change, and the guy is no longer a moderator or even active on M&G. And it never gets updated, other then when they repaired the links that one time (and even then the links were broken for several months and only fixed after I brought it up, and the images were all based on the ones I posted before). So it is not an updated version based on my work, but rather it is just straight up my work. So I would just like my name on it somewhere as a credit.

Alas I was but no more. I am blacklisted from the mod team and will never be allowed back there, so there is no chance of me ever becoming the mod of M&G again

Unless you have proof that you should be the one credited (or he comes forward and announces it) I'd have to say it's not right to take the credit from his name.

You made the guide, your name should be credited somewhere.Looking at the thread it does seem like that moderator did the work, not you.Hosting an art exhibition does not give me the rights to the paintings.

Probably should have contacted mods on Discord first, more mature solution, but I approve, there is quite a lot of shady things going on with them, more exposure the better!

Semi sarcasm. There were actual legimate reasons to have it under his name. When I was on the mod team the posting guide was an ongoing project I kept up to date. So when I was removed, the assumption would be someone else would keep it updated, and it logical for the most active moderator on M&G to be the one to host it.

But nobody ended up updating it or paying attention to it. Even when the links were broken for months, nobody in the mod team noticed or fixed it until I brought it up. Then the guy ended up becoming inactive on M&G and is no longer on the mod team. So the reasons to have it in someone else’s name no longer are true.

The sarcasm in wording it like I did was because it is somewhat annoying that they put a signature when I wrote it. They should have credited me or at least asked me before taking my work. But as I said they were doing the logical thing before. Now though, the logical and reasonable thing would be to give me credit for the work I alone did.

Also note I do mean “they” as in plural not he. Moderators alone have very little say over such things and can’t choose to pin a thread. So to blame Melle in anyway would be inaccurate. This is a team level issue that is for the heralds to decide not a lower level mod

I agree. It wasn't written by me, and you should get due credit. Personally, I thought it was kind of stupid and unfair when they made me slap my name on it, but now there really isn't any reason to do so.

Give me the ok to take it down and I'll gladly do so. It seems artificial and outdated, and it could use a personal touch from its REAL creator.

I was in a similar situation in another forum some years ago: wrote a sort of beginner's guide, then a mod recovered and reposted it a while later (months? years? don't recall) after the notoriously shitty forum/server/database setup ate my post. However, the new post starts with credit to me and an explanation of the technical issue.

I firmly believe in giving credit where credit is due, but I also believe in proper evidence being needed beforehand.

Long story, but suffice to say I was under a considerable amount of stress at the time and got into a lot of fights. I was being harassed pretty much non-stop by a group of posters, and it was determined to let this happen for months even though they were violating the rules with their harassment, and most of what they were harassing me for were things outside my control (such as policy, which is the heralds/riots choice not mine) as there was fear the mod team would look biased if they helped me. But rather then resigning which would have been the mature thing to do, I threw a tantrum like a child until I got kicked.

Basically, I was being treated poorly both internally and by the community, but rather then take the high road I instead became spiteful and made a fool of myself. There are a lot of decisions the mod team made regarding my situation that I feel were unfair. However, at the point they kicked me I most certainly had it coming.

Yknow, they say these kind of things happen so we can learn and grow from them. You seem alright from what Ive seen, and it sounds like you've definitely matured since then. I don't blame them for not taking you back, I'd be extremely strict with privileges like that too, but if otherwise you do good work.

I had them look it over before I posted it, and it was pinned under my name for months first. So the mod team would be aware, or least very easily capable of proving, that it was indeed my own work.
