why do the boards look like trash now

I'd imagine it's to promote informed voting. Now you have to actually read the context of the post in order to vote on it.

I like this feature because it requires you to actually see the post.

It's so ppl can't just downvote everything as easily

Half the stuff posted is trash that needed not confirmation. A poor change once again coddling those of weak feelings.
