Those comments are nowhere near the same order of magnitude. It is not really against the board rules to say "Hey -- you're being a bit of a jerk right now. Please consider how your comments are coming across."

Point is the actions of the people you talked about doesn't make them retarded. So yes, you calling them as such is a jerk move. Additionally, to be precise, the rule doesn't call you a jerk; it simply refers to your behavior as something a jerk would do.
