Can the mods work faster on deleting transphobic comments and threads?

  • I see a thread identifying as an attack helicopter, submitted 6 hours ago, not deleted yet.
  • I see a comment identifying as a full green alien, 18 hours ago, not deleted yet.
  • Another attack helicopter comment, 13 hours ago, not deleted yet.

I reported few hours ago.

There are also racist comments not deleted yet.

  • "Blacks are doing bad not cause of racism but because they developed a trash culture and have the highest single parent rate." 5 hours ago, not deleted yet.

Updates:

  • So not wanting black people to be murdered by police makes you a black supremacist??? "It also might not be racist to support BLM, but doesn't change that they are a black supremacy movement." 5 minutes, not deleted yet.

  • "I understand that Riot is banning males until 2:30 but...They understand that there are only 2 genders, yes? I'm not trying to cause controversy on the boards, but it is genetically factual there are only 2 genders." 2 hours ago.

I think they can get to work on deleting those threads when their company repeals the policy on not allowing men into their PAX West event at the same time as everyone else. After all, they're both issues with the same company. I think they can respond to both of those problems with the same level of fairness and equality, don't you think?

And I hope you don't think that your problem is anywhere near as important as our problem, do you?

Tech and especially gaming industry is overrepresented by cis men partly because women and LGBTQ folks do not feel welcome and safe, as shown by recent accusations of sexual harassment against Riot. Another reason is that gaming is stereotypically a male activity. Women and non-binary people only events is a way to combat this inequality. Unless you can think of a better way to encourage more women and transgender people to pursue software related careers, I believe such events are a good thing.

I do believe hate speech and violence against transgender people and racial minorities are much bigger problems than cis men not being allowed to participate in the first few hours of an event.

Right? Like I think I'd have heard a news story break about girls getting like beaten up...for anything really, much less being beaten up in a video game, hate fueled gender war fight. Or whatever you'd call it.

I would agree that hate speech and violence towards transgender people and racial minorities...or anyone really, are a big deal.

But I see many problems with this 'response'.

  1. You're going to encourage more women and transgender people to pursue careers or to get involved in interests...where they will still be belittled, harassed and potentially (since you mentioned it) violently attacked once they go to these non-sheltered events or, God forbid, in their office after they accept a job at that company full of harassing employees. Just because you shelter some people doesn't fix the fact there's a problematic part of the community that will suddenly become more saintly than they were before.

  2. In terms of how the response is delivered, it means that Riot, and apparently you yourself with your own words, believe an entire population are all guilty of these hateful actions. Which is not true, and will only anger and further divide the community you're trying to "encourage" or whatever.

  3. 'Combat'. You said it. The fact you, and the countless other people also on your side of the fence who, think of this as combat is a huge issue. Ever here the saying, "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind?" Mmm? Ring any bells? So what kind of response do you expect is going to happen when you, Riot, the feminists, the LGB-whatever the rest of the letters they keep adding on since there seems to be more letters every time I hear its name, all of you are going to get when you start fighting people like this? That's right...more fighting, and more 'combat'. And in a result, more isolation when companies following these procedures go belly up by losing all their revenue streams, and when the fighting gets worse between men and women. Everything related to combat is a cycle, until you have a war...and trust me, wars are never good.

I could say more, but I think I made my point.

And I still don't think the comments and threads should be deleted until Riot gets a grip on things. After all, they said we can't have political/social talks on these boards in their own rules, then go ahead and bring up social and gender politics in their own event guidelines.

Harassment will decrease when the tech industry becomes more diverse and cis white men are no longer the majority. Therefore, this solution does work to fix the problem.

You do not combat inequality with more inequality.

People died for minorities not to be segregated, and now we're swinging so far the opposite direction some people are seeing their segregation as a privilege. You do not foster a welcoming community by creating a scenario where nothing but resentment can be felt.

Also, it's none of your damn business if I identify as an attack helicopter or a potato: I can identify as anything I want, this is the reality you created. You are racist/sexist against attack helicopters, you bigot.

Honestly I'm more annoyed because these types of jokes have just gotten stale because it's the thousandth time I'm hearing them, lol, and I say that as a trans person.

And if men get identify as girls, why can’t i identify as a bacon cheesebuger? I was birn this way after all.

I can see how these may be offensive but I dont see them as transphobic.

Definition of Transphobic: Intense dislike of or prejudice against transsexual or transgender people.

Phobic definition: having or involving an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.

I see no way in which making a simple joke is either having an intense disliking of them or an irrational FEAR of them. At best these are semi-offensive jokes, and if they bother you you should just ignore them. They aren't transphobic, I guarantee most of them were even in Memes and Games.

People don't understand that despite some of the topics being interesting, they are doing it to show women and LGBTQ how to get into the gaming industry where sometimes they feel unsafe because of the stereotypes and stigmas with girls and gaming. Yes gaming is generally done from the safety of your home, but although it doesn't happen as frequently as it used to in the past, you can still get harassed. I remember an ARAM game recently where all I wanted was to trade for Ezreal and the guy denied and said "call me daddy first." I ignored him and was going to just play what I got. Luckily he traded me anyway. Still you can't mute in champ select until you get into the game. What he did was totally creepy and uncalled for. I wish people would drop the whole this is sexism against men bs because that's not what the non inclusion of men in the event until 2:30pm is about. After the scandal with the whole harassment in the work place I can't blame them. I do agree they are going about things the wrong way though. It shouldn't be getting more women into the workplace. It should be shutting down the harassment. Just hiring more women won't stop harassment. You need to have policies against harassment. Not just for men, but for women too because although you hear more about harassment towards women that's only because men are less likely to speak up due to the fear of "looking like a baby." (Not the words I wanted to use, but the words I'm gonna due to TOS.)

Sure, just as soon as they start getting paid. Since they are simply volunteers they do have to try juggling school and/or work with other life aspects. It is a do stuff when you can type of position and since school just started or si starting up; many are adjusting to new schedules.
