Can't hit 'Play' or accept invites

my boyfriend and I were in an ARAM lobby and he suddenly couldn't hit accept on the match... the game kicked him off and he relogged, but he is unable to hit 'play' and whenever I send him an invite, it tells him 'owner can no longer accept invites' when its just me in the lobby. the game is giving no indication that either of us have been temporarily banned or effected by the LeaverBuster. now hes getting 'system error: we did not hear back from the server.' not sure if this is a bug AND a technical issue or if its just a technical issue, but some help will be much appreciated. <3
