Sound is staticy/computerized when in game on Mac

In game the champion voice or the announcer and is sometimes static. This happens ~ 50% of the time if not more. This only seems to happen on Mac. On OSX El Captain version 10.11.6. Usually if I disconnect and reconnect to the game it fixes it, but this wastes not only time but sometimes my team has restarted due to me loading back in slow.
