The blades should only converge on your target if you hit them with a basic attack or your Q. I'm not too sure what happened there. Probably spaghetti code.
No it's unfortunately what his ult does now. Since they so foolishly got rid of his blink, his ult now senses blood and follows the enemy.
Your ult has no cast time. You pressed r during your auto animation, probably a few frames before the auto connected.
