CLIENT - <friend> has received gift. (again and again with every login)

Months after giving a couple of friends gifts I am still receiving the message that they've opened their gifts each time I log on.

1. I log on
2. I see the message
3. I click the X and it goes away.

ps: if screenshots are needed to better understand the bug, I can post them but I think that it's not too hard to visualize from the description.
