PVP.net Patcher Kernal has stopped working

I don't know why this is happening. It was working fine yesterday until a lot of disconnecting and connections were happening yesturday. Please help!

The same thing happened to me starting yesterday (12/14/2014). I double-click on the LoL icon to start the game, and I get an error message saying "PVP.net Patcher Kernel has stopped working." I have a sweet laptop with Intel i5 processor and Windows 8.1, but I can't play the game. This happened to you 2 months ago. How did you get past this problem? Any advice?
