How serious is this Mac Client Bug / Crash?

So as I am sure nearly every other Mac user has been experiencing, I have had to deal with terrible crashes ever since Patch 4.17 and even after Patch 4.18, which was SUPPOSED to fix it a lot, but really did nothing at all. Now I understand how complicated troubleshooting computer code can be, but it wasn't even acknowledged by Riot for quite a long time, and now that they have (kind of) acknowledged it, their solution hasn't made it any better... As a result, I have been spending a bit of time on the Boards, looking through threads regarding this issue. I've heard several different variations on how other Mac users say to solve it, if at all, and I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the subject. The worst that I have heard is that you have to do a complete system restore, and then just load a backup from Time Machine. That sounds fine, but as of the last OS X update, Time Machine has not been working for me, and I am really apprehensive about doing anything that I won't be able to undo. Another solution I've heard is just to uninstall and reinstall LoL. This seems like it probably won't work, at least not very well, but I'm not a computer technician, so what do I know? My point is, I am now concerned that these crashes might be harmful to my computer at this point, and I use a family computer, so I can't just go resetting my computer. Has anyone has success trying out different things to solve this on their own? Normally I would totally trust Riot to just fix it an patch it, but I've read quite a few threads with Riot employees talking about this issue with Mac users, and while they appear to be focused on this issue, they do not seem to concerned about it, so I don't really have much faith at the moment. If this bug does persist, and there are any reasonable methods of addressing it, I am willing to quit playing the game if Riot cannot seem to care enough for a particular demographic of its players to address a crippling feature.

I'm pretty sure doing a Time Machine backup is pretty useless. Like, really.

That being said, I had some huge troubles, but I played today and had no problem.
