LoL esports site automatically logging out after logging in on Chrome

ExpertSockThrow·6/9/2019, 12:50:22 AM·125 votes·35,851 views

When I click on the Watch & Earn link in the LoL client, I get directed to the sign in page in my browser. Once I enter my info, I am signed in for all of 1 second before I am automatically signed back out then redirected to the stream with prompts to log in to get credit.

Things I have tried:

  • clearing cache & cookies
  • going to the link and signing in manually, both directly after a failed attempt from the client launch and after clearing cookies
  • restarting my computer (hail mary move)
  • setting Edge to default so as to try a different browser (this fixed it- currently signed in and watching with no issues in Edge). Signing in using Edge without launching from the client also works to give credit as expected.

Interesting thing to note that I tested today (6/12, ~ 21:15 EST)- I can go to www.lolesports.com and remain signed in at https://nexus.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/esports/. But as soon as I click on the Watch tab, another tab opens and I am automatically signed out it as soon as it loads- https://watch.lolesports.com/schedule?leagues=lcs,lec,lck. I'm still signed in on the original Esports site tab though.

In essence, it seems like a session management issue with Chrome.

I experience the error using Chrome Version 75.0.3770.80 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 10. Most recent failed attempt was at 20:42 EST on June 8 2018 for IGN ExpertSockThrow. The successful Edge attempt was at 20:46 EST June 8 2019.

Hey Riot, can you verify that this is an issue you're looking into? There's a work around but it's not ideal. I don't use Edge for a reason!

I solved this for myself at least, I had the same issue. Id log -in and I would be auto logged out. After removing the cookies linked to the site, I checked my browser settings in chrome and saw that I was blocking third-party cookies. Once I disabled that feature it started working again. So I assume since it is broadcasted through youtube you would have to "allow" cookies from youtube.com and watch.lolesports.com? Either way, you can always just disable it and then reenable once you're done watching the stream/VODS. [slayer-jinx-wink]

Man i'm glad I bought this team pass. First the games I watch aren't registering, now I can't log in on chrome to watch them at all.

for me, allowing cookies from

[*.]lolesports.com [*.]riotgames.com

solved it, for now... shouldn't get messy again, since the theory behind this is very, very simple: you are watching on lolesports.com which is pretty obvious, however... when you log on, your authentication is done on riotgames.com which create a thirdparty cookie (which is why the third party options has worked for some). so if you only allow lolesports.com you're not actually allowing the cookie to be used that keep you logged in, and thus get automatically logged out due to the failed check.

a bit surprising that it suddently stopped working everywhere at the same time though... did all browsers do an update, OR... did riot change how the cookies was handled? lesson learned, don't mess with cookies... go for cake ~

I saw that others have fiddled with similar solutions. and well, if it work that simple then it should be possible to apply a similar fix using the same logic for any browser. the issue would simply be that the login is done on another domain. so for a different browser, look into allowing riotgames.com cookies with a wildcard function or "auth.riotgames.com" if necessary. possibly fiddle a bit with allowing third party cookies if necessary, and simply block others if it allow too much. I didn't touch my third party settings in chrome however, but it worked fine so far. let's hope it last~

You do not have to turn off cookie blocking from 3rd party pages, enabling "functional" cookies under cookie preferences is enough. Or you can specifically choose which cookies are needed and enable them manually.

Edit: It worked at first, but somehow broke again. Enabling

riotgames.com auth.riotgames.com

works for now.

u have to add https://watch.lolesports.com and riotgames.com to the cookiesettings (chrome://settings/content/cookies) under "allow"

I've had to switch to firefox for weeks too now, just to have my rewards count while watching the games. I'm using brave, so it's probably a Chromium thing.
