Game Crashing (Mac) and then Banned for "Leaving Game"

Greetings.

Yesterday evening, as I came home from a long and exhausting day, I was excited to sit down and continue playing in the new Summoner's Rift and associated jungle. I queued as normal, I decided today would be a day of hilarity with Kalista and Jinx in bot lane. The game proceeded as normal until about 17 minutes, when Kalista ult'ed my dying Jinx to safety. This would prove to be a fatal mistake.

As Kalista's ultimate went off, the entire game froze like Buffalo, NY during the Holidays. Nothing was moving but my cursor, and the ever enjoyable Summoner's Rift background music was looping the same second of sound. During this dramatic moment of sudden freezing, the voice client I was using continued to function normally; and my allies (from the opposite side of the country) could be heard with unrivaled clarity. This led me to believe that this was indeed another infamous LoL malfunction.

Upon hard restarting my computer, it was brought to my attention that the Kalista ALSO suffered the Great League Ice Age of 2014 at around the 19 minute mark. The Kalista had to suffer through five minutes of haggling with Task Manager in order to close the horribly confused LoL client. We both desperately tried reconnecting, but as our Ship of Endless Struggles limped to the finish line with rats leaping off either side, our team surrendered the game. This immediately deposited ourselves and our hopes and dreams into the Post-Game screen.

To add the icing to this terrible fruit cake, I received the delightful message that I was banned for a few hours for being "AFK" during a game. If "AFK" refers to being forcibly ejected from a burning ship, to which I clung to with desperation, headed straight towards a black hole like the recent blockbuster hit Interstellar, then I absolutely deserved that ban. However, if you have been reading this thread, you can understand that my intention was NOT to leave the game and abandon my allies. In addition, my ally, Kalista, received no ban. Where is the logic, Riot? Where?

So what's the point of this thread? Partially a cathartic release of my intense frustration, but also to let League know that something went horribly wrong. Was it Kalista's ultimate? Possibly. But I have been Jinx and ult'ed by Kalista and the game continued to function as normal (including not dying, seriously try Kalista support). Most importantly, the ban was unnecessary and falsely applied. Use this information as you see fit, Riot, but please adjust this horrible malfunction.

Sincerely,

Another Disgruntled Jinx

Well, since saying "it's your computer that did it so you deserved it" is apparently a thing, I was the Kalista. I don't have a Mac. I have completely different literally everything hardware and software related except the game itself. It crashed on me, too. Neither computer has a history of crashing while playing LoL. Neither of us has crashes regularly and as a result we do not "have a history" of leaving games. I'm sorry, but it IS due to Riot. I'm not saying it's malicious, or even that it's bad design (although it very well might be), but it IS a bug, and it ISN'T our fault.

Was there a Vi or Caitlyn on the enemy team? Because if so, you may have just been arrested.

Was there a Rengar on your team or the opposing team? Because if so, you may have contracted E: Bola.

I have absolutely no serious suggestions or solutions -- Just puns -- But hey, I did enjoy reading the story. Very well written.

Also fist bump to fellow mac user item 3025

I didn't read the thread, but I created a lvl1 account to play with my girlfriend who just started the game. We played about 60 bot games. She rage left one (it's a bot game and I'm like 40-0, who cares honestly - though I made it clear to never rage quit in a real game or at all if possible) and was immediately given a warning (one leave out of 60.. in a bot game?).

We continued to play for the remainder of the night and continued the next day; probably about 6-7 games after the warning. She black screened at the loading screen (4.19 common error) and was stuck at the reconnect screen for the duration of the game. Immediately suspended for 4 days. Kind of silly how harsh it is, in my opinion. Getting suspended from 2 leaves out of ~70 CO-OP VS. AI GAMES? Silly.

I don't know the statistics for "playing:leave/afk" ratio per game, but I feel like ~70:2 isn't that bad (especially taking into account client errors/lag and not every game being an intentional afk). I also feel like co-op vs. ai should have significantly less impact on the leaver buster.

Definitely be sure to submit a ticket to Player Support regarding your ban; I had an accidental ban occur on my account after being disconnected by the game and they took care of my issue within a day.

You are not alone. This happened to me.

The same thing happened to me after the patch, I too have a Mac. At least it was before the system was implemented. At any rate, they only ban frequent AFKers, this isn't the first time you've crashed I'd expect. That Buffalo joke was insensitive by the way, I happen to live there and ten people have died this week

I was playing Jinx last night to just try some stuff out, went into the game through the Team Builder queue and the game would seize up when I stepped off the platform. There were graphical ticks like the screen would go woobly and then I would crash. I tried three times to connect and the same thing happened on each try. Then the fourth time I did it the game caused my computer to Blue Screen. It was right before this last set of patches and the strange thing was that the only difference was I had installed Sims 3.

Well today I get back on and suddenly I've got the little Leaver Buster message. I haven't left a game since like 2011 (due to a power outage). I was kind of worried I'd get in trouble.

Tehemai11/22/2014, 5:06:05 AM1 votes

Well that was fast. I 100% expected this but not this soon.

Not sure why the brilliant minds at riot decided now is the best time to doll out dc punishments galore when there game is at it's most unstable state since I've joined.

I really don't like any of the changes Lyte has been introducing even though I've never been on the receiving end of his "justice". It's very much "ends justifies the means" and I really do not believe in the accuracy of the statistic he sometimes gives out to defend the practices.

In this particular case though, it wouldn't be that bad* if* it were a different more reliable game but given this game is one of the least reliable online games I have played, I really don't think you can use this to handle afks.

I mean I can't even count how many weird problems I've had just this week alone. At this point it feels like a beta.

I am very interested to see Riot's response on this.

As a Mac user, I experienced the exact same thing and got banned for 3 days twice and 1 day ban a couple of times. This was during the severe Mac downtime on patch 4.16 to 4.18. Since then the game seems to be stable.

This left me with a bitter experience and quite frankly, completely unfair to players who experience genuine disconnections.

The new LeaverBuster must accommodate such instances to avoid unfair bans.

MeagerPompnano11/22/2014, 3:08:53 PM1 votes

I have been having this crash issue since patch 4.16, (so we are approaching two months at this point) I have uninstalled and reinstalled LoL, and I have encountered this bug literally 100% of the games that I have played. Mind you, I have only played 1 or 2 bot games after every new patch, to see if the issue is any better or worse. Thus, I have not encountered issues with Leavebuster for a while. BUT, when I was playing games w/ other people 'bout a month ago, even before they jacked up the system, Leavebuster was all over me. B/c I would crash, take forever to relog, and then b/c it took so long, it would kick me for being AFK. My only hope is that this crash issue becomes fixed when they officially release Season 5, but I doubt it will. I appreciate your good-natured thread sir, certainly brightened my day. But based on the past experience I've had, this ain't gonna get addressed... :( Though I agree that the Leavebuster part of your thread is certainly important, keep in mind that it wouldn't have happened if your client hadn't crashed.

Same thing.. and I got a leavebuster warning and have to play 5 games in low priority because of it

My mac is crashing too and i dont know why

Thunder Dreamss11/21/2014, 10:55:00 PM1 votes

Upon hard restarting my computer

Were you hard restarting to kill LoL? Most of the time if a program is acting up you can just force quit it with Command-Option-Esc. It's much faster than rebooting.

Rito please...

Riot doesn't ban for the first leave. You've left games before that's why it banned you this time.

I received my first leaver buster warning recently because of the same thing, though Kalista wasn't in-game. It was during their log-in issue where it took many attempts to get in I believe it was Friday 11/21/14. Ever since, I've had a higher ping than normal, rubber banding, gliding, etc. I've tried just about everything possible on my end (changing DNS, wifi settings, closing EVERYthing else, etc.), nothing makes an ounce of difference. No other games or services are affected. All downloads are fast like usual and without interruption. My ping to their suggested server and to neighboring servers is consistently 30 lower than my in-game ping since Friday.

After my 3rd game freeze, I started running Activity Monitor on another monitor so I could force quit League Of Legends (the "of" is capitalized in Activity Monitor for some reason) once it becomes unresponsive. It's the only way I can close it without a hard restart. You can't tab out or access any programs that aren't on-screen. Without my 2nd monitor I'd be SOL. All in all, I've had I believe 4 in-game freezes, and 2 or 3 during the loading screen.

Dalin11/21/2014, 11:13:49 PM

Try windows bootcamp in mac Basically installing windows. Only option since there seems to be a lot of problem with mac. That includes long load time.

fngerpopinbholes11/23/2014, 12:05:10 PM

PC completely crashed 3 times in one game and got banned ever since the new summoner release PC crashes about 3 times a game. WTH RIOT
