New HUD font is WAY too big

So the new HUD in patch 5.15 worked perfectly fine when I played any Bilgewater match, but now that it has been patched into ranked the font on the HUD is so big that it's overlapping over everything in the HUD. There are other posts about this too so I know I am not the only one. It does not matter if I scale the HUD to 0 or to 100, the font size does not scale as the HUD scales, the font just stays huge and it overcrowds everything. It makes it very hard to see the cooldown timers, and its just very tough overall to see whats going on. I have tried changes my aspect ratio, HUD size, basically anything that has to do with interface of video I have tried so this is clearly a bug on Riots end. I have a PC not a mac (if that makes a difference). Again, the new hud looked perfect when I played Bilgewater matches before the new HUD went live to ranked queues, but now the font is giant and overlapping everything. Anyone else have this issue or know a possible way to fix it? I have not uninstalled and re-installed yet, I am hoping I wont have to do that. I can't seem to figure out how to paste an image from printscreen but if you look up the issue I am talking about you will see. Thanks

Hey guys, just wanted to drop in and get some specs. What hardware are you using, ie. Are you using high definition displays (such as 1080p or 4k)? I see there are some Windows machines here - any Mac's?

This sucks, and we're working on making it suck less ASAP; Just gotta nail down what the specific patterns are.

Thanks for Dropping in! The font size on the HUD for me is giant too. I am using a Razer Blade 14" inch which uses a high definition display. My laptop resolution is set at 3200 x 1800 and under Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Display, my windows scaling is set to 200%. When I play league, under VIDEO, i play in full Screen with my Resolution set to 2048 x 1152. Also, under "change only the text size" I am using font size no larger than 9pt. My HUD scale is set to 40 (Im not sure if that's important though).

I'll pitch mine in as well - 3200x1800. Running League at 3200x1800 and scaling at 250% as well. Screenshot attached.

same here running windows 10 w/ 4k display. laptop resolution is 3840x2160 and I play league in game at 1920x1080. which has always looked the best till 5.15. mine is just as bad.

Windows 10 14" 3200x1800

Can I also request that the scaling of the mini map and health bars be adjusted, so that people with high resolution displays can play at their native resolution without everything being too small? This was a problem before the 5.15 patch. Though this isn't as big of an issue fixing this would be much appreciated, but if it's too much of a hassle fixing the oversized font issue on patch 5.15 is good enough. Please and thank you.

I use Windows 10 with a resolution of 3200 x 1800. In game, I play with 1920 x 1080 resolution, but no matter what resolution I use, my hud font stays oversized.

The screenshot is my HUD right now. What can I do to solve this problem?

I have the exact same issue. I'm also using a 4k resolution display on a 15 inch laptop. My resolution is set at 3840 x 2160, though in-game I have the settings set to a 1080p resolution, because 4k in game makes the mouse and health bars ridiculously tiny. Even when I did change the in game resolution to 4k the font stayed the same, overly large and overlapping. It kinda sucks that those of us with 4k resolution suffer a bit.

Ok, I just did a bit of playing with basic Windows/LOL settings. I use Lenovo Yoga Pro 2; QHD 3200x1800px; Windows 10; Windows text&items scaling 200%.

Numbers in HUD are way too big, like this bug title says. New HUD looked great when released, but got these big numbers one week after release.

Attached a screenshot of how interface looks like.

From the attachment: Stats, counters, and numbers are way too big. (tab info has also large text) But in the shop, item names and descriptions have correct sizes.

  • Changing interface settings doesn't improve readability, everything gets bigger, including numbers.
  • Changing resolution (in game or Windows) doesn't improve readability.
  • However, changing Windows text scaling to 100% solves ingame text dimensions (oh, how great it looks! xD) But, then EVERYTHING computer is used for gets small, including LOL login screen, and pregame stuff, shop... Even browser, other apps... You get it, computer becomes useless with 100% scaling on QHD display.

Windows still doesn't let you choose text scaling for a specific app (yes there is an option: "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" but it doesn't disable text scaling in LOL :/ - pregame screen becomes way too small, but ingame experience is exactly the same, has big numbers)

So I beg you Riot, make interface numbers independent from Windows scaling, like everything else in game is, and we will be infinitely thankful! (I expected that to happen with the last patch 5.17, but since it didn't, I had to add this comment)

I am having the same issue! Mine screen is a 13.3 (Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro) with a resolution of 3200 x 1800. When I change my computer's display (not the display in game) lower, it seems to make it better

How is this issue still not fixed? I can't play properly this way at all. It's unbelievable that a game which is as large as league of legends doesn't have high resolution support.

Hey there, Jinx! We've been aware of the high res issues for a while. I care, and the team cares. It's turning out to be a complicated issue, and we're actively working on getting it resolved.

I know this post is from over 4 months ago but the same problem is persisting for those of us using high res monitors. I am using a Samsung ultrabook with 3200×1800 resolution. I am having the same exact issue as the OP and those commenting. Has there been a solution for it yet?

Hey so this became a problem on patch 5.15 and now were on 5.17. I was just wondering when we might be expecting something done about this. Its not unplayable but makes a lot of things like seeing cs, ping, kd spread and all that almost impossible to see, which just makes the game more difficult to play and less fun because you're at a disadvantage.

resolution 3840X2160 on a dell inspiron 7548 runnning 64 bit , 64 based processor , intel(R) core(TM) i7-5500 CPU @ 2.40GHz . the text size is overlapping over each other plz fix this.

Has RIOT given anyone any updates on a fix for this issue. My League is set to 3840 x 2160. Everything runs smoothly the only issue is overlapping and stupidly large font size on my HUD and everything else with text in game. Launcher and Desktop text is fine only until I enter a game. This game should have had 4K support a long time ago. Nothing yet??? That is just insane! I got my Razer 14'' and I can't play LOL because the fonts are bigger than my HUD! RIOT please fix!

Heroes of the Storm doesn't have this problem for 4K users... Trying to get back into LoL after 2 years, but realized it's not compatible with 4k laptops. It's sad to say that there hasn't been any updates after 4 months. Especially when LoL prides themselves as the #1 multiplayer game for PC, when they can't be flexible for users who bought a 4K laptop for quality and not for inconveniences like this.

If no Mod is going to comment on this topic anymore, people will have to start spamming in the General Discussion thread for new eyes to see and raise awareness before an uproar will be formed.

Hopefully to assist with this kind of issue further:

My specs are Lenovo y50-70 4k resolution touchscreen laptop. Maintaining a full screen resolution of 4k doesn't help with the size of the text and reducing it down to 1080 becomes unplayable. Tried to change the settings through the control panel with reducing % size from 250 to 100% but size of text still persists as being too large.

The graphics are fine. Everything is smooth, the only thing is the size of the texts through skills, stats, names, and top right corner. Texts of gold gained, etc through gameplay are also enlarged.

If any Rioters can at least just say they're still working on this issue, it'll calm down a lot of people.

Your most avid gamers and fans are using the latest in technology to use your game. They ( including me) are waiting for a solution from your team for over 4 months now. You have mentioned that the latest patch (5.24) Is your last patch of the year. Its disappointing to me that your team was unable to sort out a solution for this. Frankly you are going to lose very important and needed Fans of your game. I hope you at least have a member reading this thread. As this is an important issue for your company. The longer you ignore this all. The worse your consequence will be.

You have a slight break before your competition goes full tilt. Please make this a priority.

I'm playing on a Razer 14 and I main Shaco, but the fonts are too big and the map icons are way too small to see who's health is low enough for the gank! It's ruining my play style!

i am sorry to tell you guys that 4K screen is not compatible with LOL now. (hope it works in the future ..)

here is solution for this proble

go the resolution setting, change your resolution for example, my laptop resolution setting is 3840*2160(recommended) and the text size is 250 %

i change it to 1920*1080 and the text size is 100% or 125 (my setting is 125 %) and your LOL Resolution setting is same as your screen resolution setting

then restart run LOL

guys all done

however, our 4K screen just shows half ability pretty sad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently played on the PBE on the same laptop that I play on and the size of the HUD and text all fit perfectly, maybe there's a fix coming....

You need to set your scaling to 100% and restart. If you have a high resolution display, it'll make everything on your desktop, web browser, etc look impossibly small to read, but it'll make in-game League look perfect. In Windows 10, you can change scaling by right clicking on the desktop, clicking on display settings, and scrolling the bar all the way to the left.

I will give that a try, but it really does suck that I have to flip flop my display every time I play a game and then stop playing. Why did the new HUD font work perfect when I played Bilgewater, which had the new HUD, but it is all messed up in ranked queues, doesnt make sense

The 5.15 patch HUD is not the same as the 5.14 patch HUD. They made a change to the font that caused this scaling issue, among a few other changes.

Hi all i saw that this post is about the new HUD so i want to ask a question where is fps bar its very important to me to see my fps? Because sometimes i have computer problems and my fps are my only indicator of that. That way i know that the problem is in my PC and i can find the problem to fix it so than i can have smooth gameplay instead of blaming RIOT for everything bad that is going on with my game. I searched but i cant find and option that will make my fps visible so if there is something like that or if there is a fps bar pls tell me because the problem maybe my stupidity and i cant see them or find them. THX in advance.

That's odd. Try going to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display and click "Set a Custom Scaling Level" and see if that's at 100%.

If it is...then that is odd.

This worked for me but i have to change it only when i play league because it makes my icons and other things very small, so when i am done i change it back to what it was. TY btw
