When I was playing as Viktor 
on a pvp , when I use his q ability which was throwing the throwing star at his enemy . But after he throw the star , I use his next basic attack on the enemy tower but after that Viktor kept using that laser beam repeatedly on the tower .. so its like getting a critical hit on the enemy tower .
This happens because you had the empowered Q ready but the tower wasn't a valid target. The game saw you had the Q auto ready, so it played the laser animation, but it would be equal to a normal auto attacks damage. Since you didn't use the empowered auto the game still saw it there the next time you autoed.
TL;DR did the animation, didn't do the damage
