Login Connection Error

When I try to log in on the login screen, it comes takes about 10- 30 seconds and comes up with a DNS connection error. I have tried the way they show to deal with that multiple times, and it still hasn't worked. I have a windows 8 computer and I am not a very tech smart person, so the simpler your answer could be, the better.
