Volibear flip on Kass

So i played a ranked game today as and i noticed that whenever would rift walk around the time that would flip that it would completly cancel the rift walk??

Like you could see the animation of rift walk, but mid rift walk volibear flipped and the riftwalk blind didn't go through.
I was just wondering if this was a bug or intentional like how you can stun mid jump
