FIREWALL CRASH

One question before a long whining: Will you ever fix this firewall crash bug?

One of the most crucial steps of development is recognizing a problem--or lets sugarcoat it and call it imperfection. This firewall bug has been around since a few years ago. Why is it still a problem to this day? I understand many problems lead to this common symptom of blacking out after champion selection and preventing reconnection for the game's duration. There are several ways to "fix" this as posted by many casuals who managed to get their own ways around it. There's even an app called WTFast if you haven't read my last whining on the boards because this firewall crash happens very frequently. **Just because there are ways to avoid this bug, don't think it's been resolved. **

Do you still refuse to believe there is something wrong with YOUR game? Many try to defend Riot saying it's caused by other programs conflicting with the game. Out of all the online games I have played in my life, League of Legends is THE WORST at dealing with bugs. I started getting this firewall crash since last august and ever since I've been posting about it on this board to hopefully raise awareness. What's been done so far? Nothing. Apparently your staffs care more about deleting my posts.

After all those patches and bug fixes, this crucial bug has been left untouched, as if Riot gave up on the particular group who experience this bug. I suspected it may be a problem with my last computer. Now that I have an actual gaming computer, I know it's not. I followed every solution I could find online so far and none worked except WTFast, although it seldom failed and it turned out to be a limited free trial and nobody should have to rely on a foreign program to play a game while its own developers neglect the problem.

I have previously provided that I live in a dorm but the public wifi has a strong connection right now (I reinstalled LoL before the game ended although I still could not reconnect). I have mentioned how switching to a different wifi allowed reconnection. I had this bug on dorm wifi and when I connected to my friend's phone hotspot, I got in the game without a problem. Later I got the same problem on his hotspot, connected back to dorm wifi, and I managed to get in the game again. Obviously it has to do with the ip address being blocked by the game. That should have been a big lead to fixing the bug. Still no action.

To those people that comment that I am whiny, It's because the only reason I'm ever on the boards is because there's a problem in the game. Otherwise I'd be in game right now. Is having a fine game without having to worry about seeing the black screen after champion selection too much to ask for? This is year 2015. We were supposed to get hover boards and auto-fitting clothes and shoes.

Beyond this point is redundant so if you actually read this far, you may stop now.

I am very pissed I finally managed to get an awesome match up and this crash happened. WE HAD TEAM YORDLE. Everyone agreed just for the sake of having good fun and this crash ruined it.

I waited for good wifi connection to play ranked since a year and a half ago. People left for vacations and I finally got good ping for a limited time and this bug crashing me out almost every other game makes me genuinely afraid to keep my eyes on the screen after champion selection. I know computer games are not as big in the US as it is in Asia because of console gamers but this is ridiculous. If this happened in Korean servers, guess what gamers would do. RIOT! LoL has been ranking top most played online games and still struggle to provide good service. I am OFFENDED by your support page because there is no appropriate solution to this problem and you don't even receive tickets like nexon does on various matters. I click submit and request and the only three options are questions about the game, unauthorized charge, and your merchandise store.

I've even negotiated in the past that whenever this happens you prevent the penalty but even that has been ignored. I still like the game and I was willing to deal with the casual crash but if you will continue to penalize me, there's no other way to interpret this other than that you expect me to quit because you don't care.

Just in the past five days I got this low priority queue three times because of the same crash. Twenty minutes of waiting in the queue for five games because you refuse to accept that it's the game's problem. Blame the player for an error and penalize him. You expect me to keep playing like this? Of course you wouldn't care to have one person quit the game. But once this gets enough recognition, you will regret this.

I am also getting really tired of the low priority queue's due to the client failing to load in. It's not under my control and randomly occurs about 10% of the time.

Naturally missing the majority of the early game costs my team the game, but their only way to vent their frustration is to report me for "akf/leaving the game" . This is also super unfair due to the fact that I was never Away from my Keyboard, and had not yet been in the game to "leave" it.

I do wish there was a fix for this issue, but at least put some effort into detecting it. If Riot could prevent good meaning players from being punished for no reason I believe their design criteria would have a better chance of success.

It has everything to do with the modem/router, especially if you are experiencing it on multiple systems, and it disappears over a different network.

Have you tried running a Netalyzr test? http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/

I have a theory that this problem, for some users, may have to do with large buffer sizes. A lot of older routers were released with massive buffers, when video streaming and games relying on latency weren't primary concerns. I don't know much about networking, but I've been examining this issue since the Zyra patch, to the best of my abilities.

I am interested in seeing some other peoples' results of this test, and comparing them to my own.

Personally, I circumvent it by setting my firewall (AVG) to interactive mode, and manually allowing the program through each time. inb4 it's related to firewall, I won't take the time to explain. It's just not in my situation. However, I am able to work around the issue using firewall software. I suspect that a firewall awaiting authorization changes the way data is handled and released through the buffer. Although, I have no idea how this works. Just my best guess.

I have recently opened a new ticket with support about this issue. I believe I have quite a few details that may help them come to a solution for some users. I am using a modem/router combo that is frequently reported to experience the "firewall" error, but it's also a very common one (so it might not be flat-out incompatible.)

I can almost guarantee you that replacing your network hardware will alleviate the problem, but I'm not the type to throw money at an issue. And if you're using a public network, you really don't have that option.

EDIT: I am very rarely unable to connect to the game at all. But it always takes about 30 seconds for me to do so. We may have different issues, or yours could be worsened by being on a public network or over wifi (I'm wired on private DSL.)

I just played (if you can call disconnecting multiple times playing) a game where certain things would trigger my crash. (Jungler smited, Use of abilities, etc.) I made it to the end game screen and I only got reported, no sympathy. Time will tell if I get low priority queue but it still really needs to be fixed.

Try the following steps on this post and i assure you it will fix it:

Riot responded. I received a penalty for "being afk or leaving game". If Riot's solutions in the supports actually worked, I wouldn't have had any trouble. Funny. I suppose they weren't even recognizing all these complaints about firewall crash and plan to make no change. Uninstalled. Have fun rest of you and hopefully nobody in your future games gets this crash.

Well I would say you try to connect from a wifi you didn't earn so the bug might be caused by this Wifi, maybe some port are restricted and it cause them to block after a while.

Anyway I'll up vote your tread cause this game have alot of bug who impact players, and maybe this can help riot to at least read the bug tread ? Cause well there's 3 month bugs still there and we have no answer of any kind about it.

I too have the same problem and i too have posted a forum which hasn't received any help. I think that Riot should really stop trying to make updates for the game and worry about fixing it before adding new things. If they don't have a fix at least give us an update and say your working on helping this issue. Riot clearly doesn't know how to fix this but rather stays quite then tell us. Its been about a month since I've had this issue and none of these so called fixes work. I'm done with this game and I'd like to thank Riot for getting me here. :)

Only time I see the Firewall bug: When I ALT TAB during the Loading screen. If I don't ALT TAB I never get it.
