Didn't get moved to champ select

When I was in queue with a friend, he started the queue and I didn't see the join queue screen, this was blind so he kept telling me to "call support". I copy and pasted support so I would be ready but I still had the queue lobby screen. I hovered over his name and it said he was in champion select. Is it possible that I didn't get moved to Champ select when he did? Even if I didn't accept the queue in time (which there was none of) It would have gave us a message and sent us back to queue. He then had to dodge and got a queue timer. I don't want this to happen anymore, so please tell me why it happened or fix it :)
