Xin Zhao R Knockback positioning?

So isn't the xinzhao ulti supposed to knock me back? I got ulted by xinzhao, however instead of knocking me back, I was pulled to another side of him and knocked back, it felt super weird as I was playing. Maybe it's just me but I was so confused because where I expected to be and where I ended up did not match at all.
