Gnar stun doesnt get canceled by Sion's ulti?

i've been seeing this lately but when i ulti towards Mega Gnar as Sion he stuns me still. my ulti hits him and he gets popped up into the air but his stun still goes off and it looks like mid air and it stuns me. was wondering is this a bug or can his stun not get canceled?
