Varus Q damage went through Sivir shield

Spell shield is popped and no blight is gained but the Q damage is taken.

Was playing as Sivir and when I shielded Varus's Q I still took damage, however I didn't gain a stack of blight. So I guess the shield is blocking the varus W spell and letting the Q damage through. This doesn't feel like this is how that should work.
