Manaflow Band consumed before actual spell cast

As I cast Bard's W approaching the turret, I was out of range and clicked to move where I wanted, but, I believe because I cancelled the cast of the spell, the Manaflow Band went on cooldown without any actual spell being cast, allowing me to spend a chunk of mana when I shouldn't have been able to.
