Possible visual bug with tibbers aoe

So I was playing Morgana today vs Frankentibbers Annie, cast my Q close but didn't hit tibbers. It was close enough to him to interact with his aoe and it (my Q missle) dissappeared visually but still struck a target behind (I think).

Is it possible his layer of animation is interacting in a funny way with skill shots? Could pets be the cause of the dissappearing missle issues people have been complaining about on the forums?
