Bug splat at loading screen, now I get black screen trying to rejoin

So I got a bug splat message after champion select transitioning onto loading screen and I have not been able to rejoin the game since. It says Game has crashed click to rejoin however when I do all I get is a black screen instead of loading screen.

What can I do to fix this?

UPDATE: I guess that game ended so I experimented by starting a custom game and am facing the same issue. Instead of loading screen I just get a black screen. WTF is going on? any advice please?
