Thresh's souls are bugged.

Whenever the souls are about to disappear, instead of disappearing, they go to Thresh even if he's not walking over them. Y'all over at Riot might want to look into this.

this doesn't happen every time though plus i like it it's already hard to stack souls with thresh as it is because you are most likely going to get poked really hard if you walk up to collect them

It isn't a bug, it has always been that way, and is intended. It has a fairly low range for this to happen, it isn't as if they go to him no matter where on the map he is.

The range of the souls doing this as they are about to go away, is close to the range of his auto attacks, so keep that in mind if you are trying to deny him souls in the future.
