Major Elise Bug 100% Reproducible

chimpus··115 votes·6,858 views

Not sure if intended or not, but if Elise casts Rappel (E) while a target is stunned with her Cocoon (E), the stuns duration is drastically decreased. Steps to reproduce:

  1. Cast Cocoon on an enemy
  2. Cast your ult, then quickly cast Rappel on the target
  3. Notice how your stun lasts less than half a second.

Bug can sometimes be (and is most often) used as slang for nearly any type of creepy crawly. The word bug is either meant as in a specific type of insect like aphids and stink bugs in which beetles like ladybugs are not included, or it can mean almost any kind of small arthropod. So in this case the word bug is correct.

Will not be fixed as usual bug reports go unless they are skin related.[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Possibly intentional for balance reasons??

That's what I'm guessing.

If so, then it needs to be noted in the tooltips.

Yeah... no. That seems like an incredibly complex way of "Balancing" elise that doesn't really make all that much sense.

CatSith9 votes

Doubt its intentional lol.

Wow. Garbage. Hope they fix it. I mean it'll be three patches from now, but it will get fixed. Or they'll say it was intended.

Is it only when you Rappel ONTO the stunned target, or does it work with ANY Rappel?

chimpus3 votes

Haven't tested, I'll take a look into it in a bit and replay with what I find.

Awesome. Curious to see!

Just tested, does not matter which target you Rappel to, it always reduces the stuns duration regardless of the target.

Thought that might be the case. Cool. I wonder if it's caused by the form-swapping nature? Elise IS, I think, the only form-swapping champion with a persistent effect not tied to a separate entity (like a Trap or Jayce's AoE or wall). Could the Rappel effect be somehow removing the old effect? 'cause it looked like the video had Lulu starting to move when Rappel STARTED. Or is it only when you begin the second cast?

I'm also pretty sure it's unintentional now -- the SAME target I could see as a soft way to make Elise's chasing power a little less oppressive (although I'd have favored just shortening Rappel's range or the stun's duration instead -- and I think Riot would agree rather than hide mechanics in the skill), but having it break the stun on ANY target upon Rappel's cast seems like a definite bug.

I think it only happens if you directly target someone with Rappel, instead of casting it on the ground then casting it on a target. I'll test it again in a bit. EDIT: Apparently that doesn't matter, but i'll check if it reduces the stun on the first cast or second cast.

Hm...wish I wasn't running to work now, because I'd love to test some things myself.

Namely if you can STOP the stun from even occurring if you're in Rappel when it hits.

I just tested, the stun is reduced on the first cast of Rappel. The stun is also reduced around 50% if the Cocoon lands while Elise is in spiderform. From testing, the stun seems to always last the same amount after you Rappel, regardless of any other factors.

Awesome. I let a friend of mine at Riot know that this thread exists: I can't guarantee you will get any sort of response from anyone ( my friend works in a different team, and Rioters in general tend to be fairly busy and already fairly well informed about bugs), but with any luck it gives them a little bit more knowledge of the situation. :D

Nidalee's passive counts as a persistent effect and as far as I know it doesn't lose duration (I could be wrong, I don't play Nidalee).

It isn't a crowd control effect though, maybe that is the difference in why Elise's stun does that.

@CHIMPUS: Can you run a test to see if the cocoon stun duration does the same thing if you change into spider form after the stun lands, but don't cast any abilities?

(if you could do a test with it immediately after target is affected as well as a delayed response that would get some good data!)

But that's tied to a passive, not an ability. Probably not the same (if that even is the cause)

As you can see from his video, Lulu doesn't begin go move until the E is cast. Good thought though!

I believe he already did, if I recall correctly.

Ah in which case it is very unlikely that this is a form change issue, and the issue is actually with rappelling while a target is stunned by Elise.

Might be an issue with the specific coding on Rappel removing Elise from the map for a period of time.

@CHIMPUS: Can you do this test with Zilean Ult or GA (or both)?

  • Get Elise to low HP
  • Put Zilean Ult on Elise / Have GA purchased and passive available
  • Stun target with cocoon
  • Immediately have someone kill you

Can you also do this test with Zhonya's Hourglass?

  • Stun target with cocoon
  • Immediately use Zhonya's Hourglass

These tests should create a different effects that are similar to Rappel where Elise is "removed" from the map for a period of time. This would allow us to pinpoint if the issue is with Rappel coding, cocoon coding, or working as intended cause Elise is removed from map (highly doubt the last one being true, but you never know).

chimpus1 votes

Just tested, all of those scenarios end up with Elise's stun lasting the full duration.

TallyZrg1 votes

Definitely sounds like it might be Rappel coding then.

The only other effects I can think of that remove champions from the map are Kalista Ult and Tahm Kench Devour.

May want to test those abilities too.

(The other one I thought of was Bard ult, but since it is a Zhonya's effect and you've already tested Zhonya's I don't see the need to test that ability)
