Friend gifting system is making a mistake

Me and my fiend decided to myst skin gift each other. I sent him the skin and I was out 490 riot points. Later I get on and he tells me he tried playing a game with the champion and it wouldn't show that they had the skin. I got the confirmation that he received the skin but he kept telling me it didn't work. Someone plz tell me what's going on
