Chatting with specific friend breaks chat on client
For some odd reason my friend and I cannot chat directly with each other on the client. Whenever we do the chat crashes I suppose and stop working altogether. When that happens we can't use the chat in any capacity.
The really strange part is that its just chats between me and him. I can chat with anyone else on my friends list and I'm fine, and so can he, but whenever we type to each other it breaks. We're only able to communicate in game lobbies and via club chat rooms. And of course in game, though I'm not certain if we can private chat in game, I'll have to test it.
It's very consistent, since it happens every single time we try to chat.
Supposed Causes of crash:
- Typing to friend or
- Simply selecting them in the client chat menu.
The specific effects of the crash is:
- Can't type in chat anywhere on client including lobbies and clubs.
- Cannot look at messages from any other friends.
- Cannot select other friends in the chat menu.
- Cannot select chat bar in lobbies.
And I'm fairly sure the messages go through, they just aren't displayed on the sender's client. Restarting the client fixes the overall chat issue, but we still cannot send messages to each other directly.
If anyone has a known fix for this other than restarting the client, please let me know.
Edit: Several hours later it seems to have fixed itself. I have no clue how or why. We just continued playing games and at some point it started working.
Also I can confirm that the problem did not affect the in game chat. Only the chat on the client.
