Hey, man. If you haven't been able to fix your patch process yet, let me lend a hand..

I noticed that my patch client was just going incredibly slow.. so in reality I had no problem. You, however, if the patch ever gets stuck a given percent, then you close out the window, unless you're lucky, the patching process will often be stalled and "an unknown error" will occur. **To restart the patching process, go into your Riot Games Folder / League of Legends/ RADS / solutions and then delete everything in that folder, likely a folder titled "releases." ** Let me know if this solution fixes your problem, it usually does for myself and others with this problem. ~FANTAsticOrange :D
